After the Compromise of 1850, which allowed the fugitve slave law to be passed and the outrage over popular soverignty in the Kansas Nebraska Act, why didn't the North Seceed? If they were that mad, why didn't they leave the union instead of the south?

Hello,

I'm writing a history of Carthage for my final project in world history class... I thought it would make an interesting contrast in my introduction to state the number of books composed on the subject of the Roman Empire (or the History of Rome in general) versus the number of works written about Carthage... I logged onto the Library of Congress website and did a subject search for "Roman Empire" with no luck.... a search for Rome yieled thousands of results in hundreds of sub-categories!!!

To get to the point, I was wondering if anyone has read somewhere (either online or in text) the number of books made about the topic of Roman History/Empire. If anyone knows the answer, can you cite the source of where you read it??

Thank you graciously to all those who can help or provide insight!!!

Peace out.

why? why not?
