Many were buried in Europe.

A large number were shipped home (very little were flown anywhere--air transport hadn't maatured sufficiently yet). Those that remained were grouped together, often by units of divisional strenghth or greater, near the battlegrounds where they fell.

Theres a large cemetery in France for the soldiers of WWII, especially Normandy... dont recall the name, but George Bush has visited there, as many U.S. prezes probly have, i would imagine....
