For those couple of cynics, this ain't no homework. I would never trust answers to be proper unless they are sourced. But off the record, i do appreciate people that can teach me something in a nutshell and make it intereting enough for me to llok more into it. I ain't no film person either but someone mentioned the film so i might just watch that.

Oliver Cromwell was a `puritan` a strictly religious man, who disliked the `high` church with all of its` trappings and wealth . He detested the monarchy and all the `royalists` who followed the King, and for a while deposed the crown and took it upon himself to rule the country, the soldiers under him were called `round heads` because of the shape of the helmets they wore and their hair cuts, which were very short compared to the long flowing curls of the royalists.Cromwell desecrated the churches and ransacked the tombs where previous kings were buried, All that remains of the kings of England after that were just oddments of their crushed bones, He took silver and gold and trappings from the churches, set the churches on fire and killed the priests. Despite all this, he was a dammed good soldier and parliamentarian. After this the crown lost a great deal of its` power and influence over the running of the country. I am sorry that I cannot right now remember more details of his policies, but it is a long time since I left school !!

Oliver Cromwell (April 25, 1599–September 3, 1658) was an English military and political leader best known for making England a republic and leading the Commonwealth of England. He was a middling gentry farmer for the first forty years of his life; a religious conversion experience made religion the central fact of his life and actions. A brilliant soldier (called "Old Ironsides") he rose from the ranks to command the Army. Politically he took control of England, Scotland, and Ireland as Lord Protector, from December 16, 1653 until his death. Cromwell is a very controversial figure in English history—a regicidal dictator to some historians (such as David Hume and Christopher Hill) and a hero of liberty to others (such as Thomas Carlyle and Samuel Rawson Gardiner.)
Cromwell's career is full of contradictions. He was a regicide who debated whether to accept the crown himself and decided not—though ironically he had more power than Charles I. He was a parliamentarian who ordered his soldiers to dissolve parliaments. He displayed a devotion to Christian values yet his conquests of Scotland and Ireland were brutal. Under his rule, the Protectorate advocated religious liberty of conscience but allowed blasphemers to be tortured. He advocated equitable justice but imprisoned those who criticized his raising taxation outside the agreement of Parliament. Admirers hail him as a strong, stabilizing and stately leader who brought international respect, overthrew tyranny and promoted republicanism and liberty. In a BBC poll of 100 Greatest Britons, he was voted number 10. Cromwell's critics ridiculed him as an overly ambitious hypocrite who betrayed the cause of liberty, imposed puritanical values and showed scant respect for the nation's traditions. When the Royalists returned to power, his corpse was dug up, hung in chains, and beheaded.

This looks like a homework question.
Perhaps you should go to a library and check out Cromwell from the encyclopedias. Or, search him on the Internet.
You should do your own work.
