Hello,

I'm writing a history of Carthage for my final project in world history class... I thought it would make an interesting contrast in my introduction to state the number of books composed on the subject of the Roman Empire (or the History of Rome in general) versus the number of works written about Carthage... I logged onto the Library of Congress website and did a subject search for "Roman Empire" with no luck.... a search for Rome yieled thousands of results in hundreds of sub-categories!!!

To get to the point, I was wondering if anyone has read somewhere (either online or in text) the number of books made about the topic of Roman History/Empire. If anyone knows the answer, can you cite the source of where you read it??

Thank you graciously to all those who can help or provide insight!!!

Peace out.

Fascinating question but I doubt if you will get a definitive answer. Where do you start? Suetonius? Gibbon? It is a subject that has fascinated scholars over the centuries and they have all wanted to add their 'three ha'pence' (as my mother used to say). I shall be interested to learn if anybody can be of more help to you!

Thousands would probably be right. People have been writing books about the Roman Empire since it was founded and still are. And do you just want thos in English? If not it must be tens of thousands.
