The oldest free-standing structures in the world are now beleived to be the megalithic temples at Mgarr and Skarba in Malta and Ggantija in Gozo (island near Malta), dating from 3250 BC - older than Stonehenge.
Oldest standing castle is at Gomdan, Yemen, dates from before 100 AD.

Stonehenge was a large earthwork; a bank and ditch arrangement called a henge, constructed approximately 5,000 years ago. As for castles...it all depends on one's interpretation. The Romans were building forts long before the concept of castle came about. For purists the first 'real' castle (with a keep) is supposed to date from the lat 9th century in Normandy. Almost 100-years before they were brought to the U.K.

I'm pretty sure Stonehenge is the oldest structure in the world.
I dig the answer about the monolith in 2001. That is a few million years old.

The Great Pyramid of Giza.It was there long before the others.That's why all the others are crumbling .They were cheap immitations.Next would be Stonehendge.
