Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls”

The tide rises, the tide falls,
The twilight darkens, the curlew calls;
Along the sea-sands damp and brown
The traveler hastens toward the town,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
Darkness settles on roofs and walls,
But the sea, the sea in darkness calls;
The little waves, with their soft, white hands
Efface the footprints in the sands,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls
Stamp and neigh, as the hostler calls;
The day returns, but nevermore
Returns the traveler to the shore.
And the tide rises, the tide falls.

This is an old book by John Steinbeck.

It is relevant to the poorer parts of Britain today and probably the same in America.

Does it mean anything to you?

Are people who listen to books on tape considered readers?
I wont lie i do have time to read, but prefer books on tape, because I spend so much time in my car.

I have always wanted a typwriter to do my writing on. I always see them second hand, but is it hard to find accessories, etc. for older models? Or has the technology stayed pretty consistent and uniform?

I find that shocking, the book is appalling: no plot, totally pointless showing-off. It is as though she had entered a contest to see how many obscure erudite references she could fit into each page. The book jacket blurb called it a "touristic tour-de-force", that says it all and I should have taken that as a warning. Does anyone see any worth in these Hav books (she had the temerity to come out with a sequel).

Set in English 1831

An inspector finds a prostitute unconscious nxt to an abandoned Inn. The prostitute gets amnesia, forgets her past, becomes as innocent as a child (is this possible?)She's forgotten how to read or write,but knows how to talk. So, basically, she symbolizes how humans were before they were affected by the ways of society. Anyways, the inspector hates her at first, because she is, after all, a prostitute, but later on comes to love her-of course, this happens towards the end of the story. Anyways, what should the mystery behind her having been lying unconscious of next to an abandoned inn be?Who tried to kill her?Why? And should I have the inspector find a diary of the prostitutes which tells of her life before she got amnesia,like, the story will change from the present to the past, narrated in first person by the prostitute (her diary)And also,should I have her memory return later?How should the story end?Turn her back into a prostitute,by the influence of society

it's about this world that is divided into the elements, kinda... fire, water, etc. anyway, the fire emperor (always the embodiment of fire) needs the embodiment of water to survive (called the Leviathan). because the fire in the emperor would drive him insane without the Leviathan's cooling influence. anyway, if anyone's read this story and remember where to find it, could you tell me the name or the url or whatever? I've tried searching, but don't remember enough to find it again. thanks!

We all already know Ron and Hermione are finally going to admit they love each other, that somehow Snape's action at the end of book six will turn out to be other than it appeared, and that Harry has to find the four Horocruxes. . . what other surprises do you think are in store?

Most original, yet convincing/possible answer wins. If you explain why you think it might happen with evidence from the previous books, I'll give you more consideration. Yes, I've read all six books. Out of consideration, you might want to put spoiler warnings in your answers for those who may not have.
