THE water rushed, the water swelled,
A fisherman sat by,
And gazed upon his dancing float
With tranquil-dreaming eye.
And as he sits, and as he looks,
The gurgling waves arise;
A maid, all bright with water drops,
Stands straight before his eyes.

She sang to him, she spake to him:
"My fish why dost thou snare,
With human wit and human guile,
Into the killing air?
Couldst see how happy fishes live
Under the stream so clear,
Thyself would plunge into the stream,
And live for ever there.

"Bathe not the lovely sun and moon
Within the cool, deep sea,
And with wave-breathing faces rise
In twofold witchery?
Lure not the misty heaven-deeps,
So beautiful and blue?
Lures not thine image, mirrored in
The Fresh eternal dew?

The water rushed, the water swelled,
It clasped his feet, I wis'
A thrill went through his yearning heart,
As when two lovers kiss!
She spake to him, she sang to him:
Resistless was her strain;
Half drew him in, half lured him in;
He ne'er was seen again.

I took these photos only last night on an old Minolta SRT101 35mm camera. I'm fairly happy with the results only there's something not quite right with the photos. I've uploaded a few to show you what I mean. The problem is, the colour of the bulbs in each photo looks a little washed out. The settings I used were as follows: Film speed ASA 200, Aperture f1.7, Shutter speed 1/30 of a second. Could it be that I've over compensated for the lack of light?

Also, you can't really tell because I've scanned the photos in but, the blackness in each photo isn't as black as one would hope. I'm only guessing but, would the best solution be to slightly decrease the amount of light entering the camera by altering either the shutter speed to 1/60 or changing the aperture to f2.8?

Help would be much appreciated, thanks.

My mother made this poem but she beleives it has a few mistakes, we are not sure how to put it into the correct format. Would anyone fix it for us and correct any grammer/punction/etc? 10 points!

Pride in family is pride in ordinary people.
Who in our hearts become extraordinary,
Their faces are mirrors
Their eyes speak clearly
the way things used to be,
the way things ought to be,
and most of all the way things are.
They are our refuge
and spring board
our link to the past
our bridge to the future.
Between earth and sky above
nothing can match
our parents love.

I often think that recipes could be so much more fulfilling and poetry could explore sensual pleasures beyond the tired old rut of boy/girl trauma. Does anybody out there cook like the bard?

I have been a writer since 1976 my first effort sold immediately. Have since published on web several places with some success. Have had my own web site at lulu.com/duncanpublishing now for 4 years. Started off great but this year has been very slow. Have adds on msn, google, and all the free adds I can find and sales are very slow. Looking for free adds that will get seen by lots of people. Look at google search and you will find my books that should give them a boost but it isn't helping. Google search for books by Melvin C. Duncan and it pops right up but the sales aren't
popping for nothing. You guys and gals have a look at the web site and tell what I am doing wrong www.lulu.com/duncanpublishing. Thanks in advance

A while ago, I read Miranda Twiss' book on the most evil men and women in history. Not surprisingly, Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, Pol Pot, and Idi Amin made the list (so where the heck was Mao?). So did Ilse Koch and Elizabeth Bathory.

What surprised me was that Gregory Rasputin made the list. After reading about the Romanovs and majoring in history in college, I am stumped that anyone would consider him evil enough to stand among the ranks of nasty dictators and bloodthirsty femme fatales.

Sure, he was evil and creepy but as to why he would be considered one of the most evil people in history has me scratching my head in confusion. I normally thought of him as some crazy bum that thought he was some sort of prophet. I guess the act of bringing down the 300-year-old house of Romanov would be considered evil (would the royal house fall regardless of whether or not Rasputin came in the picture?).

Fellow history majors, buffs, historians, etc., please enlighten me on this.

I am not a crier.
I cry when I'm laughing a lot but it takes a lot for me to cry when I'm sad. Something has to be in front of my face happening or in a movie for me to cry about it, its weird.

So how can I make myself cry when I need to?

Another way to think about this question is, what might you accomplish in your life if you weren't afraid? If you knew you couldn't fail? If you didn't have concerns that stopped you from trying?

Thrust into an age where no one seems to have a mind
Searching for answers to questions we can't find
Used to be such fools, thinking that it would last
Now we have to wach as an entire new world is cast
Times are changing, faces hide in fear
Seeing our lives from the other side, of the two way mirror
Re-examining facts once believed stable
Holding on best we can as fate turns all the tables

Any Good...
