My definition of a world war is a war where many of the world's major countries are involved and a war that is significant in magnitude.

I think there are some very different world views that are bound to come to a head in the next several years, possibly violently, possibly not. See "Jihad vs. McWorld" (Barber) and "The Coming War With China" (Carpenter).

What's your definition of "world war"?

Yes, unfortunately I do believe there will be another WW. I think that it will happen probably in the next 10-20 years.
The cause could be a number of things but, I believe that the straw that will break the camels back is a tie between religion and oil.

I am not an atheist, but, if you look at all the fighting that is going on over in the middle east is about religion. Who's right who's wrong, who's land is it etc. etc. etc.

Terrorist organizations could take over the oil reserves and then the world would have to get involved becasue we all use oil in some form or another.

There will never be a world war since by the very nature of modern warfare (ie, in a nuclear world) it would mean global suicide. What you'll see is regional conflicts, proxy wars and fights between or with rump states. That's not to say an accidental launch by the Russian and/or American will not happen, alls i'm saying is that a world war will never happen as long as rational leaders are in charge.
