I have some familiarity with the book and don't necessarily think it's entirely age appropriate for the grades/forms it's taught in. I was provoked to ask this question by a kid who called into a talk show asking what the point of assigning Catcher was supposed to be, given the crimes of Chapman, Hinckley, and others.

Why (IYO) is Catcher - notwithstanding its mature issues and dated situations - taught nowadays?

Do you feel Catcher is inherently harmful; i.e., a justification or inspiration for bad attitudes?

If you learn that your son/daughter was to be assigned Catcher what advice would you give them?

Thanks! *Lobs a side of beef into the aquarium and watches*

I always make it and it turns out sticky and clumpy, but i think its because of the way i boil it. put my pan on the stove (its not a wok, a skillet) and heat it up. then i put soy sauce in the pan and then add my rice. ive heard both to use cold rice and hot from different people. ive used warm, not realy cold. it comes out not nearly as good as the local chineese resturant. what am i doing wrong?

Do you think, in terms of eye and hair color, that opposites attract? I've heard that people are often attracted to those who have different physical traits than their own - brunettes to blondes, blue eyes to brown eyes. I started to say that's not true, but come to think of it, most men I've dated and most men who I attract have blue eyes and blonde or light brown hair (I have dark brown hair and hazel eyes). I've dated brunettes, but the attraction wasn't there, not at the level it was with my blonde partners (don't know if it's a coincidence, maybe?). I'm also 5'2 and often date tall men - wondering if the tall men liking short women belief also has some truth to it. I know these things don't apply to everyone, but I wonder, in general, if the opposite attracts theory works? I guess I don't pay enough attention to other couples to know, but in my case, it definitely works.

Doesn't hope make suffering possible? If there is no hope that your pain will cease, that you will get what you want, isn't this when the pain finally goes away, and isn't this also when you truly die, when your dreams have died?

Is this not the paradox of life? Is this not why life seems like the true hell, and the hopelessness of hell can never be as horrible as the pain of life?

Okay, now sit down now, boys and girls - it's story time! Shhhh.... Once upon a time, billions of years ago, there was nothing. Suddenly, magically, the nothing exploded into something. That something is called hydrogen. Can you say "hydrogen?" I knew you could. This hydrogen eventually cooled down enough to condense into solid rock. It was magic rock. Inert and lifeless, but still magical. And then, magically, water formed in the sky above the rock. The waters rained on the rock for, oh, let's say billions of years. Some of the rock broke down into minerals, and these minerals washed into a pool of water.
Then one day some of these minerals magically formed into a kind of goo in the pool of water. Can you say "goo?" I knew you could. Well do you know what happened then? That's right! The goo magically became ALIVE. So anyway, this bit of magic goo magically found something to eat. Then, magically, it found another bit of magic goo to marry, and they had a whole bunch of magical little goos. Eventually - millions of years later - some of this goo grew up into all the plants and animals in the world around us. If it's alive, it came from that first bit of magic goo! Well, more time went on. Finally some of this goo magically evolved - can you say "evolved?" I knew you could - some of this goo magically evolved upwards and upwards, growing ever more advanced, bigger, stronger, smarter, until it became a kind of magical hairless ape with thumbs.
And do you know who those apes are? That's right! They're YOU and ME! We are the magic rock apes! And you know what else? Someday we'll evolve enough that we'll become the God we all know doesn't exist. Now take a nap.

I am thinking something like finding cheap unique items for $20 and then sell or exchange/ barter for bigger items on the web or ebay. Or creating some unique memorabilia and putting it on ebay. Or putting a funny video on youtube.
