I have read that the first 3 months a women has to be very careful. This is my first pregancy and want to continue to work out but want to make sure all would be okay to do.

Ab work is ok the first 3 months of pregnancy. After that you should not lay flat on your back because it can put pressure on a major artery and cause problems. You can still do ab strengthening but you have to do them differently. There are alot of good workout videos for pregnant women you could get. Good luck

I would check with the doctor first. Better to be safe with this. Also, I know that there is a magazine called pregnancy fitness. Good workout suggestions in there. Also many work out videos that are made for preg women. Walking is a great exercise as well. Congrats on the baby.

Okay, I totally understand your not wanting to gain too much weight during your pregnancy, but, the whole sit-up thing, seems like it would put pressure on the lower tummy area.. (could jeopardize things).. try bend-overs, instead.. they have the same results, and aren't as hard on the tummy.. When I was pregnant, with my oldest daughter, i walked everywhere, all the time!! And when I had her, the same day I came home from the hospitol I put on my jeans, and was able to zip them up without any problems, everyone, was like where's all the baby-fat? I only gained 20 pounds my whole pregnancy, and that must have all been baby, water & the placenta! Because, I was my skinny self, as soon as I spit her out!!! So, I swear by lots of walking!! Not only is it good for yours & the babies cardiovascular, but, it also helps with an easy "delivery", and you will keep trim, throughout your pregnancy!! Good-Luck, to you, and Congratualations, are your soon-to-be, new arrival !!! Smile!!!

Ab workouts are counterindicated during pregnancy. Sit up, curl ups, etc, are not a good idea, as you could damage either the fetus, or already strained muscles that you'll need for pushing. Try to find some low-impact exercises that you can do while pregnant. Walking is good, as are swimming and water aerobics.

I would check with your doctor first... Walking and breathing did a great job for me... I only gained 20 pounds and lost it all when my daughter was born.. I still continue to walk and now work out the abs and body.. Its hard because we dont want to lose our figure but eating right and excerising in moderation helps a whole lot! I also did a pregnant yoga!!! that was really cool!

Something my wife always liked to do when prgnant is Water Aerobics. I would find a pool, if I were you, and get started in that. It really helped her stay fit.

During pregnancy, your abs are stretching to accomodate the fetus. So, you can pretty much forget ab-work during pregnancy.

Seriously, think low impact, and think comfort - pretty soon, you're not going to have any of that!

try to cut it down to at least 3 or 4 times a week instead of 7... this is the most crucial time of your pregnancy and you should let your tummy do its thing. But make sure you make it up by walking, or riding a bike around, you can't ever exercise too much.

Actually, in the first trimester you do not have to be careful at all. If your body decides to miscarry there is nothing anybody can do. It is due to some fatal genetic error that prevents the embryo to further develop. Take folic acid to prevent neuronal tube malformation.
As for the exercise, listen to your body, do whatever feels right.

Well as long as you were doing it before you got pregnant, it should be okay,. THough it would probably be good to take it easy. DOnt get into anything that you werent doing before the pregnancy. Best to ask the advice of a doctor though.

it depends whether these are new exercises or not. if you were doing them before pregnancy and have continued your normal routine, no worries at all.
if you are adding something new, need to consult your doctor (not whoever feels like talking in yahoo answers ;o) )
