The task force said a preliminary investigation has shown that the Rebar group had been involved in fraudulent trading for years. Representatives of 500 employees at the affiliates of the Rebar group yesterday staged a protest against prosecutors' decision to freeze the accounts and assets of many affiliated firms of the group, making it impossible for them to receive monthly salaries. They called for government assistance ahead of the Chinese New Year. Investigations got underway after the government took over the group's Chinese Bank last weekend following bank （runs across） the country after two other Rebar affiliates announced Thursday that they had filed for bankruptcy reorganization with the Taipei District Court.

Chia Hsin Food & Synthetic Fiber Co., a subsidiary in the group, is burdened with NT$19.9 billion in debt from losses in its man-made fiber business, while China Rebar Co., which acts as guarantor to Chia Hsin, has debts amounting to NT$20.7 billion.

Around 200 （Investigation Bureau） （inspectors and prosecutors） set off yesterday morning for a （comprehensive raid） of the financially troubled Rebar Asia Pacific Group. The police raided the conglomerate's head offices and affiliated units, as well as the residences of family members of the group founder Wang You-theng.

Wang and his wife had already fled to China before the （prosecution ordered ban on travel） went into affect which prevents （key executives） and associates of the firm from leaving Taiwan.

The search was decided upon a day earlier during a special meeting held by Kuan Chuang-cheng, chief prosecutor of the （Taipei District Prosecutors Office）, along with four other prosecutors assigned to take charge of the Rebar case, Investigation Bureau inspectors, and （Financial Supervisory Commission） officials.

Investigators and prosecutors questioned over 40 top executives of the Rebar Group and its affiliates, including Wang Ling-yi, son of Wang You-theng and president of Chia Hsin Food & Synthetic Fiber; Wang Ling-chiao, another son of the senior Wang and vice president of The Chinese Bank.
The senior Wang's （father-in-law）, King Shui-ho, was released on a bail of NT$200,000. King allegedly served as a （surrogate borrower） for loans at The Chinese Bank.

They also seized around 50 boxes of （accounting records, financial statements, and trading documents）, which are believed to hold evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the Wangs.

Market considerations are a key determinant of channel structure because when all is said and done, marketing channels must reflect the needs and wants of customers. In short, marketing channels must be customer-centric－reflecting how, when, and where customers choose to acquire products and services as well as which customers make purchasing decisions and do the actual buying. Consequently, market variables are of fundamental importance in channel design decisions. The channel manager should attempt to analyze his or her markets with a view toward gaining a sustainable competitive advantage through channel designs that serve those markets better than the competition.
In order to analyze markets effectively for channel design purposes, a framework consisting of four basic dimensions was used in this chapter. These are (1) market geography, which deals with the physical location of markets and their distance from the producer or manufacturer;(2) market size, the number of buyers in a given market;(3)market density, the number of buyers per unit of geographical area;(4)market behavior, which breaks down into four sub dimensions of when, where, and how the market buys, as well as who buys.
The channel manager must attempt to understand how these dimensions and sub dimensions operate in various markets and plan channel structures that will enable the firm to serve these markets effectively and efficiently. The channel manager must also be sensitive to changers in these dimensions and, if necessary, be able to make appropriate modifications in the channel structure to adapt to such changes quickly and smoothly.
