I'm going on a family vacation next month with my mother, who is not the most mobile of senior citizens. She's not interested in any water activities (she doesn't know how to swim, and won't go on a boat), she's afraid of heights, and she isn't able to walk far distances. I'm afraid we're going to be limited to sitting on the beach (since I can't exactly ditch her). Does anyone know of any 'easy' activities, tours, etc?

If you could only visit one island which would it be? Oahu might be the cheapest to fly to, but does it contain all the natural beauty of the other islands?

Basicaly we're looking for sex, drugs and Rock'N'Roll. Well, maybe not drugs. We just don't want to go back with the same stories as every one else. You know? "We drank pina coladas on the beach," "we saw Pearl Harbor," or "we went snorkeling." Those things are all fine and good but we want more interesting, unique, and preferably shady experiences. Does Honolulu have a seedy underbelly? Perhaps some dive bars we can peruse?

In particular, Waikiki/Honolulu. Also, where is a good place to stay? Are there clubs for young people around Waikiki? Is it necessary to have a car to get around?

What are you allowing to happen to your beautiful paradise? Joni Mitchell wrote "pave paradise and put up a parking lot."or a shopping mall or a resort or condos.Take control and save Hawaii for yourselves.

the last time I went to Kauai, there seemed to be some resentment and a general cloud of depression among the locals. My guides said that the Hawaii residents are moving to Las Vegas and some are living in cars at the beach because of high rent.
Is this true? What's going on over there?

I'm leaving for hawaii in the morning and renting a car when I get there. I plan on visiting the northern parts of oahu, but I can't find any hostels in that area and don't want to spring for a hotel.

I am planning to visit Big Island in the December time frame. Going through various blog sites, I see that helicopter ride is the best way to get close up of the volcano. Can somebody recommend a particular company that provides helicopter rides? I would also like to know the best time of the day to do this tour?
Thanks.

I'm going to be there for 2 weeks in November with a couple of friends. I have a girlfriend back home, but my other 2 friends want to hang out where the other single folks are. Are there any activities or areas that are more 'single' than others?
