I highly encourage you to go and visit for a week or two. Oahu is very crowded and busy. Just like a big city on the mainland. I was just there two weeks ago for a two day layover, lots of bums and homeless activity with law enforcement on Waikiki beach. I don't think it would be very safe for a single woman. In my never to be humble opinion, I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I moved from Minnesota to Oahu a year ago and I hate it. I am one who loves the beach and the water and it is nothing like I thought it would be. I also moved here with my husband and small daughter, he is in the Army. It is not as beautiful as the pictures and there are a lot of homeless people and crime problems. Moving from the midwest is difficult because of the changing of the seasons as well. It is a great vacation, but nothing more. I can not wait to move back to moving back to anywhere but here. There are some nice people here, but the spirit of aloha only comes around if you are a local, born and raised here.I wish you the best of luck in the choice you make because everyone can have a different experience in the same environment. Maybe you will love it.

If you derive a lot of security from your house and being near your family and friends perhaps the move isn't for you. I bet you'd have a constant stream of visitors though. Have you moved before? Do you adjust well? Oahu is an amazing place for a tourist but living there is probably another kettle of fish. Still, make sure you see it before you commit, if you haven't been there already. (Although I have moved to two places sight unseen and things worked out fine.) Good luck.

Absolutely. It's Hawaii - the best weather & friendly people. You'd live in the most beautiful place on earth. You can always visit family or better yet, they'll have a great place to vacation.
