I am looking for a self-contained beach house or cottage in the South Island of New Zealand. I'll be heading North back to Christchurch, but want to spend 2 nights (after leaving Dunedin) somewhere beautiful by the beach. I see lots of this sort of accommodation in the North (and on North Island), but can't find any in this area. Can anyone assist?

I'm interested in the more urban areas, the local life etc.
Auckland and Christchurch are probably the only two cities I will have time to visit.

I want to visit in the "off-season" avoid tourists avoid being overcharged etc.

Any suggestions?

I'm looking for ways to get from Christchurch Airport to anywhere in Dunedin without a car - are there any good trains/ buses/ flights? Who sells them? There's absolutely nothing on the web (well, nothing I could find at least...).
Thanks.

I fly into Christchurch after 23;00 and need to find somewhere (cheap) to stay for at least 2nights.

do you know anywhere that will have an open reception and how do I get from the airport at that hour? or is it a busy place and will there be public transport available then? how much would a taxi to the city be? is it far from the Airport?
