Casualties World War I
United States 117,465 (0.1% of the population)
France 1,897,800 (4.8% of the population)

Casualties World War II
United States 418,500 (0.32% of population)
France 562,000 (1.35% of population)

In other words, as a percentage of population, the French lost 48 times more citizens killed in WWI and more than 4 times as many killed in WWII.

In World War I, French combat deaths as a percentage of those mobilized were the highest of any country in the war. More than 16 of every 100 French soldiers died in battle. The comparable figure for the United States was less than 3.

Perhaps it is time for those Americans who insult our oldest ally to stop and actually think about the basis of what they are saying.

What is Corsica like to visit at the end of October/start of November? What town or area would be the nicest at this time of year - Calvi, Bastia, Bonafacio, Ajaccio or elsewhere? Is it comfortable to swim in the sea? In Ireland, where I live, the sea tends to be a bit chilly so I'd be used to this.

I have 8 days to spend in France and/or Italy with my husband in early September. My husband's from the UK and has already spent a lot of time in Paris, so we only want to spend one or two days there. We would also like to spend a few days in the French Riveria region and a few days in (or near) Rome. Does this sound doable? Is there any way I can fit Strasbourg into the mix? I have never been to any of these countries so have no idea how to allocate my time or the best way (price and time) to get from point A to point B. We're not really into the tourist thing for the most part and would like to spend at least part of this time outside of the major tourist centers. Maybe we'd consider staying outside of Rome or Nice. Any suggestions? I could really use help! We just found out that my husband needs to finalize his vacation plans ASAP, so it put us under the gun:) I don't even know the best airport to fly into! Thank you in advance!

I might keep a few bills as collectibles. The rest of the bills, can I change them to Euros? Would I go to a bank in France to do that? Do you know what rate I can get?

I will be going with my parents for Spring break (mid-late April). We will go for 6 nights, and only Paris.

What are some fun resteraunts?

I heard there is an Eiffel Tower light show on Friday nights at 8? Is this true or are there shows?

We will be staying at the Hilton Arc de Triomphe Paris hotel which is pretty nice. Is there a pool? Is it a nice hotel?

Also, what are some French terms I should learn?
I already know:

Thank you (Merci)
Hello (Bonjour)
Mister (Monsieur)

Haha, thats it.

How is the weather? How far is the Mediterranean sea from Paris, and is it swimmable or will it be freezing?

Thanks!!
