What is Corsica like to visit at the end of October/start of November? What town or area would be the nicest at this time of year - Calvi, Bastia, Bonafacio, Ajaccio or elsewhere? Is it comfortable to swim in the sea? In Ireland, where I live, the sea tends to be a bit chilly so I'd be used to this.

The weather is unpredictable. I remember everyone saying it wouldn't be hot at all when I went to Rhodes out of season last October - but you know what, the weather was constantly at 28 degrees or more! Towards November yes, it will probably be a little more mild, but I bet it will be a nice 15 - 20 degrees. With you being near the Mediteranian sea also, you will find that the waters are alot more gentle, shallow and bluer than the Atlantic. I remember walking so far out to sea and only being knee high in the water.. the Mediteranian is truely beautiful.. With all this climate change, you never can tell.
Either go on Portland Direct for cheap holiday destinations and a chart of average monthly temperatures or type 'yearly weather forecast for corsica' into your search engine and you should be able to find a website that will give you typical hours of sunshine and rainfall each month, then that should give you a fair idea of what your letting yourself in for:)

Corsica is wonderful in any moment of the year. Yes, the weather could change, but you'll have days to swim and to visit the whole island. I would suggest you to stay in Ajaccio (hotel Fesch is a good one) and from here to do trips all over the island. Enjoy your trip and don't forget that Corsica is called "The island of beauty". You'll see that's true !
