I am considering relocationg from the US to the UAE in the Middle East. Has anyone ever lived there before and if so let me know your thoughts. I have done a great deal of research and found a lot of info but I'm wondering what others thought of the country. A main question is do you consider it safe even though the US is at war in the middle east right now?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've read a few conflicting things on how Ramadam will affect us in Dubai next week on the food and drink side.

Are we not allowed to eat or drink anything during the day?

Not even water?

What's the score with breakfast? I've just seen we can't eat anything untill around 7pm at night which seems very difficult or can we eat breakfast and then nothing until 7pm?

What happens to small children? Are they not allowed to drink in the baking hot sun when out and about?
I see it's a very religeous thing but i can't see how it works in pratice for non muslims, do we just starve all day long?

How does it affect us eating out and about as well as in the hotel, in the Souks for example?

I'm starting to think we're made a huge and expensive mistake by going to Dubai at this time.

We are there from wednesday for 8 days at a top hotel with it's own restaurants, i think we have 4 or 5 to chose from.

Thanks in advance.

Is there any waves to talk of on Jumeirah Beach?

Is it worth taking a Surf board,? I have a top quality body board too which is probably a better proposition.

I will be there next week, thanks in advance..

What are requirements for foreigners who want to teach English in Dubai? Do they have to be native English speakers or not? If they don't, do they have to be graduated professors of English or not? Would it be enough if a person holds a certain degree in TOEFL or Cambridge? If yes, which degree? In what type of schools are there those positions? What about holding private lessons? Finally, how well is paid this job? Thanks a lot
