You're going there to see the city, not the hotel.
Only businesspeople who are tired of the city and want some rest stay at the expensive ones.

Depends on the amount of money you have to spend. You can go to a nice hotel like the Millennium for about 170 and above a night. It is right by the airport and accesible. Take the Dubai city tour, it is wonderful. Remember this is now considered a hot tourist area so everything is a bit expensive. Taxis are everywhere so you always have a ride.
There are also some lesser inexpensive hotels like the Palm Beach Rotana in the computer district. Kind of away but close to the Gold Souk and when i was there it w as $60/ per night, king size bed, complimentary breakfast buffet, clubs and restraunts in the hotel. The rooms were clean, the staff very pleasant, all at a good price. I purchased the room on Yahoo Travel, it is on the about page 6 or so, just keep going and you will find it.
Enjoy yourself and enjoy Dubai. Do not forget to look out the window if your flying to see the Palm Island!!! Absolutely stunning!

The Burg Al Arab is a 7 star hotel & they say it's the best. Right beside the burg is the Jumeriah Beach hotel it's 5 star, they are both directly on the beach but about 10 mins from central Dubai. I have been in the Burg but found it overdone it was so fancy that it was over the top. I stayed in the Jumeriah Beach for 3 weeks and recommend you stay there. If you are going to splash out do it there as it's top notch. There are some others but i say stay in the Jumeriah it's really nice & the water park is right next door as is a good night club Madinat. Lots to do in Dubai you'll love it.
Have fun & enjoy...
PS avoid the public beaches as much as possible on any friday as that is their day off (like our suynday) and there are literally hundreds of Indians wandering around with cameras looking at the girls & taking pics of them....well it is a muslim country so they are still amused by a lady in a bikini....

Unless you want to be in deepest darket Deira (not very nice trust me) or in Bur Dubai (busiest pary of the city but nice) then and apartment is not really a great option.
Most hotels here are of good standard and you don have to flash the cash.
If you want to be near the beach, the best and most expensive hotel is the Burj which is 7* and is the most expensive, slightly cheaper otions would include the Madinat Hotels (amazing) even cheaper would be further up past the Marina where you have the Hilton and Le Royal Meridian.
If you want to be nearer to town then the Shk Zayed road would be the place to stay, Emirates Towers is the most well known hotel along here but you also have th Fairmot and the Dusit, a cheaper option would be the Towers Rotana.
My personal fav is the One and Only Royal Mirage which is near the beach, its a bit expensive but worth every Dirham!
For info on E/Towers Madinat etc go to www.jumeirah.com, also go to your local book shop and buy a Dubai Explorer - It will have all the info you need.
Enjoy!!!

We stayed in both the Emirates Towers (4* in the City) and the Burj Al Arab (very expensive 5*+ - on the coast).
We feel that if you go to somewhere like Dubai, it is an excellent opportunity to sample affordable luxury, compared to most other destinations.
If you go to Dubai, splash out that bit extra and enjoy some luxury.
Try Emirates Tours. We got a superb deal on 6 nights - 4 in the City and 2 on the coast. It cost £1,100 each, but this was cheap if you consider that the Burj Al Arab should be £600/night.
Enjoy it wherever you stay - it is certainly a wonderful place to visit.

If you are going to live the life, there is no place better to do so than in Dubai, if this is the only time you are to go, go, but go and visit Dubai and use it to the best of your advantage, i recomend that if you are to visit and explore the beauty that is Dubai then book into somewhere cheap and spend the money elsewhere for instance; riding the dunes in a jeep, eating in a camp at midnight in the middle of the dessert, shopping, shopping and more shopping, eating the beautiful food and enjoying the weather. If you are going for luxury, you may be spending more than 200 pounds p.n.
The best of luxury:
-Jumeriah Beach hotel, depending on what time of the year there are some great savings for this great hotel, and if you have kids they will love wild waldi, water park for all ages (incl adults). 5 star Half Board.
-Metropolitan Hotel, two adults sharing, known for relaxed friendly atmosphere, close to the world trade centre exhibition, with easy access to the inner city, with breakfast only, depending on time of year e.g 3 nights in october 482 pounds. 4 star.
-Seaview, beautiful hotel overlooking the arabian gulf and the arabian sea. the inner city is only minutes walk away for fantastic shopping delights for all. this hotel has everything you could ask for, again prices depends of time of year and how many persons. 4 star.
the best of cheaper hotels:
-The highland hotel, overall good value for money, in a very central location close to shops, rooftop pool, no board at all for time being, 2 star hotel.
-Karama (deluxe) hotel, this hotel seperates itself from all the other hotels round the inner city mark, modern, sophisticated and equally beautiful, this is a great place for travellers looking to enjoy dubai, there is a gym and pool available to staff as well, 3 star.
I hope this helps and have a fantastic time, im sure you will enjoy it.

Depends on what you want to do or expect. I would personally go for an apartment as you have more freedom, and can be more central to the 'creek'
Although for 3 days you could live it up at almost any 4* hotel and not be disappointed, you'll be treated like royalty and have all the superb facilities.
Try these:
http://www.dubaishortbreaks.com/?source=overture
http://www.bestatdubaiholidays.co.uk
http://www.lastminute.com/?bbcam=ov_uk&bbkid=last+minutes&x
Check lastminute.com for flight and apartment deal, aim for one near the creek or museum as you will be really central.
If flying from UK, get a flight via Doha, much cheaper and quick connection and only 30 min flight to Dubai !
Good luck

I suggest you book your own flight and hotel, I always do it this way and usually pay average of 60 pounds a night and thats for 2 people sharing. The Lords Hotel in Dubia is very good and this time of the year is 50 pounds for 2 sharing. (well it was 3 weeks ago) Remember in UAE you can go into any of the hotels to eat and use any of the hotel bars. Hotels charge by the room whether one or two people us it, its the same price. Have fun.

very expensive. any one you choose will be lovely, just look at them and make a decision based on the room. which is the one that most welcomes you. they all have exquisite service and be pretty much the same standard, so definately choose the one you like the look of the best.
have fun! you prob wont go back each year so make the most of the time you have there. splash out! you'll never regret it (except occasionally in the following few months while you are eating baked beans!)

Personally I would stay in a cheap apartment. I would rather spend my money on buying stuff to say I went to Dubai then on where I lay my head down.
