My lover and I (he's 56 and i'm 41) are planning on selling everything, buying a big sailboat and sailing the world as retirement. We sail now and are working on our skills together. My question is has anyone ever done this? If so, what can you tell me about the pitfalls and things to watch out for when attempting this type of adventure.

My friends just lost there cockswain "Coxin" on there boat for crew and they told me just to show up at a practice and someone would teach me. They have been having to use other big guys. They said i'm perfect cause i'm tiny and I Cheerlead so i have a loud voice and know beats.

I heard I just yell at them and steer the boat

is it hard to steer a boat, and what do i have to yell at what beat?

Could I like entirely mess up the race for them this is a pretty good University Team.

Are there any videos that you know of where i could watch a cockswain in action?

Behind the skeg where the rudder stock is, my rudder seem to have some damage. It appears the fibre reenforced plastic has lifted off on the port and starboard sides exposing the stock in a few places (largeish areas). Although they aren't deep it appears to me that it was just a thin plastic layer laid on the metal stock and has become detatched. It doesn't go around the stock between the back of rudder and skeg, so can be accessed with rudder attached but makes it difficult to work on?

Would taking the rudder off to effect repairs be a good idea and if so how difficult to remove the rudder? Also what would be the best way to repair the damage, grp resin with a thin fibre matt or something else? Thanks to all who take the time to answer.
