I'm 21 years old, and I've been a pretty avid runner ever since high school. I used to run distance in highschool track, and now I play rugby where I run around for 90 minutes a game and have never had a foot problem until two weeks ago. I had been going on a lot of 3-5 mile runs lately to prepare for rugby and I decided to extend my 5 mile run on the treadmill to 10 miles. I didn't notice anything until about 1 hour after I finished when I felt a sharp pain on the outside of my left foot. At first I thought heel spur or maybe a stress fracture, but the podiatrist was clueless. The pain seems to be the worst when I put pressure on my arch, but is less painful when I curl my foot, walk on just my heel, or walk on just my toes. Since the injury, the pain has reduced significantly and seems to be going away, but I want to be sure to avoid any reoccuring injuries. I'm going to stay off running for a while, but any ideas on what this pain is?
