Maybe a little faith will go a long way and stop the players from acting like scared kittens on the big scene and maybe (I pray) lift the world cup! :)

Soccer's world governing body has slapped retiring French midfielder Zinedine Zidane with a three-match ban for head-butting Italian defender Marco Materazzi in the World Cup final.

FIFA's disciplinary committee made the ruling Thursday and also banned Materazzi for two matches for his part in the incident, which occurred in extra time of Italy's 5-3 penalty shootout victory over France on July 9 in Berlin.

Zidane's three-match ban is purely symbolic as the Frenchman retired from soccer after the World Cup final. In light of his retirement, the midfielder will perform community service on FIFA's behalf instead.

"As Zidane has now retired from international [soccer], the committee took note of Zidane's pledge to do three days of community service work with children and youngsters as part of FIFA's humanitarian activities," FIFA said in a released statement.

Materazzi, who was banned for "repeatedly provoking Zidane," will miss I

Banning (Zidane) a retired soccer player from matches??
Fineing and banning Materazzi for two matches which will mean he'll miss the two opening games of Euro 2008 !!

We talk about racism, in this case I think FIFA is being RACIST!!!

I'd totally agree with Paolo Maldini:

However Paolo Maldini, captain of AC Milan and former captain of Italy's national team said FIFA's ruling was scandalous.

"It's scandalous to suspend a player for having said something. It's the first time it's been done and it's only because Materazzi is Italian and because they wanted to justify the action of a great champion (Zidane) but who was in the wrong."

Maurizio Lupi, a deputy of Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia party also condemned the ruling.

"It's a disgraceful sentence that shows yet again how Italy's football federation carries no weight at FIFA."

Here's my story folks:
Before the start of the world cup, i bought the brazilian team jersey, with Ronaldinho name on it (I was told he was the best player of the team). i paid 125 US dollars fro the shirt.

Now that the WC is over (and we all know what happened), I am ashamed to wear that shirt. I mean, what message am i trying to convey? If i go clubbing, am i telling the ladies THAT I AM ALL TALK, BUT NO PLAY ???

That's why i wanna sue his @ss. The settlement must include the $125 for the shirt, and half a million $ for emotional stress.

Any advice from lawyers?

The bbc says that Zinedine Zidane has been banned for three games and fined £3,260 for head-butting Italy's Marco Materazzi during the World Cup final while Materazzi has been suspended for two games and fined £2,170 for provoking Zidane. However Zidane's ban is academic since he has retired so he has to work with fifa for three days and do community service with kids. Many people had harsh defamatory words on Y-Answers about Materazzi. Many call him 'racist'. Some call Italians 'racist'. I've said there weren't evidencies, and calling someone 'racist' without any proof is the easier way to spread racism. Now I guess many have to apologize.
