Many people had harsh defamatory words on Y-Answers about Materazzi. Many call him 'racist'. Some call Italians 'racist'. I've said there weren't evidencies, and calling someone 'racist' without any proof is the easier way to spread racism. Now I guess many have to apologize.

;-) Trini, this evening I'll be with friends, but Materazzi is on holidays...

"FIFA gave both players the right to be heard in accordance with the FIFA Disciplinary Code. The hearing with Marco Materazzi was held at FIFA headquarters on 14 July, with Zinedine Zidane questioned during today's meeting. In their statements, both players stressed that Materazzi's comments had been defamatory but not of a racist nature. During the course of their hearings, both players also apologised to FIFA for their inappropriate behaviour and expressed their regret at the incident."

;-) Shireen, sorry, I guess I'm not old as my av seems.. I'm slightly OLDER! But it was the best fitted to my eyes. Communicating isn't related to age - I think. I like to communicate. If you don't like to communicate with aged people, you can so easily AVOID it :-))) Y-Answers is a free place, isn't it?

ZinedineVieira, Materazzi wasn't fined by racist behavior unrevealed to media. FIFA applied (maybe it wasn't never happen before) an existing rule - Laws of the game - Law 12 (Fouls and misconduct) - Sending-off offencies:

A player, substitute or substituted player is sent off and shown the red card if he commits any of the following seven offences:
[...] 6. uses offensive or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures [...]

FIFA's rules addressed behaviors that were discrimminatory OR contemptuous. While Materazzi's provocations may not have been racist, they were certainly contemptuous. I agree with the fact that trash talk has existed for years but once a rule is put in place it changes how things in the future will be adressed. It was a very fair ruling that was equally punitive to each player given the level of the offense - higher for Zidane's physical; lower for Materazzi's verbal. It doesn't change the outcome of the game and hopefully will not significantly effect the qualifiers that Italy will be playing without Materazzi. In fact I hope that it shows the strength the team has without him as a means of convincing him that the team is capable of winning without the need for his antics that only makes the whole team look bad in the end and makes others question the validity of their victories. I do not applaud any attacks on any team based on vicious, ugly, generalizations about the character of any race; however, I do applaud the dedication and commitment of the fans and supporters of the sport. I am not apologising Erri, as my comments were that what was said transcended acceptable levels of trash talk and were derogatory attacks of a very personal nature, which I still feel is an unnecessary part of the game along with physical reactions. I never said he said anything racist, but said if he did it should be dealt with, so I do not feel I have to offer an apology. FIFA are not going to tell the world the entire outcome or dialogue as it breaches the players right to privacy and confidentiality in the hearing. They seem to have acted fairly and imposed the judgements that they felt were required. Perhaps this judgement will allow players, fans, coaches etc to understand that rules are in place and for reason and neither of these kinds of behaviour will be tolerated. Now back to winning games with football skills not with heads and mouths.

If there was nothing to do with racism, there will be no punishment for Materazzi. In fact he got 2 matches off!. FIFA was wise enough to keep the race issue in their office, in order to saves materazzi a-s-s!! Can u imagine if that issue confirmed and FIFA release it to the media, Mat life could be in danger... :)) just like Salman Rusdhi of England with his "Satanic Verses" which was insulted Muslim people!.
Keep in mind! we're not alone in this planet, there always pros's and con's. Try to understand and respect the differences..

Fifa stated there were no racist remarks from Materazzi. Both players apologize to Fifa and regreted their behaviour.

I agree with you..........a lot of people here listened to various media who had no right to even utter such a thing without concrete proof.......they put words into people's mouths which were untrue.......Materazzi denied it from the start and Zidane backed him up in front of the fifa panel.......to all those who assumed and made asses of themselves I would like to see an apology not only to Materazzi but to the italian people in italy and everyelse in the world........lets see here now.......it is said it takes a big man/woman to admit their mistake and apologize........lets see who is big enough to step up and make amends!!!

I don't think the french cry babies will ever apologize for their ignorant posts. The funny thing is that they call Italian racist but the fact is they are anti-italian racists. The fact is ITALY won the WORLD CUP and there is nothing they can say or cry to take that away.

The French are just being cry babies again, they'll never apologize because they know they are wrong but they want to justify Zidanes childlike behavior.
The French are just bitter because they have a hard time winning anything !
