Bengals fan here.
I just wanted to throw my two cents in. This was an awesome game to watch. Players made plays today. When players made mistakes, the other team made them pay. An absolute grudge match between two teams that have created probably the best current rivalry in the NFL. (Step aside Cowboys and Redskins, you're both overrated and everyone knows it.) Smash mouth football, featuring a number of hits on wide receivers. Since the Steelers lost, the highlights won't show Ben's good throws like what he did in the Steelers' first drive and late in the game when he converted a 4th and 10.
For you Bengals haters::: Palmer got sacked 100,000 times probably a little because they didn't have their 13 year veteran center. Also, Levi Jones, their pro-bowl level left tackle (who will never go to Honolulu as long as fans keep voting in Johnathon Odgen, and rightfully so) wasn't always in on plays and Cincinnati was playing their 2nd round draft rookie Andrew Whitworth at left tackle at times (only had to face Joey Porter, like he's any competition). Speaking of rookies, first round pick Johnathon Joseph might not only replace Tory James by next year... he might do it this year. All and all, the Bengals were without Rich Braham, Dexter Jackson, Antonio Chapman, Tab Perry, Chris Perry and Odell Thurman.
Note: David Pollack may be out for the year, but Rashad Jeanty and Caleb Miller will do alright. Plus, right now Brian Simmons is playing the middle. When Odell is back (and if AJ Nicholson and/or Ahmad Brooks develop), then Simmons moves back to that position. And Landon Johnson, like Simmons and Miller, can play all three LB spots.
For you Steelers haters::: Willie Parker may be the real deal after all. Against the Jaguars, he didn't run up the middle much at all; today, he started to, and the cut-to-outside is not his only option now. (And he sure has a beauty of a stiff arm.) Yes, the Steelers lost Randle El, but Santonio Holmes IS definitely developing, and we haven't even seen the Seminole Willie Reid yet because he's been injured. Personally, I'm so-so on Verron Haynes as their #2 option RB, but I don't think he'll be there that long anyway... Pitt is waiting for Najeh Davenport to figure out the scheme, and who knows how Cedric Humes will develop. (Humes is a rookie power back who came from Va Tech, and the Hokies have recently developed some valid RBs like Lee Suggs and Kevin Jones.) That LB core, as much as I hate them, sure is good. Ike Taylor is turning into one of the better cornerbacks in the league.
Note: Give Ben a break. Dude almost died. When Pittsburgh develops a SOLID #2 wide receiver, then defenses will lighten up on Heath Miller and Hines Ward. Roethlisberger will play better, and with that solid defense, solid special teams, and good-enough offense with one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, let's just say if you think the Steelers will end the year with a 5-11 record, you're crazy.
Hey, Steelers and their fans hate Bengals and their fans, and Bengals and their fans hate Steelers and their fans, and I'm no different. I just wanted to say, it was so predictable that the loser of this game would have fans come up with excuses and the winner of this game would make it out for the other team to be the worst franchise in the NFL. You freaking know it! It was a good game, ignore the turnovers and sacks and stupid decisions, we had the fortune of watching a great game.
For the Ravens fans that want to step in and say whatever they want, they can consider that as of right now, the teams they have played have a current combined record of 0-8 and, just as the Bengals probably should've lost to the Steelers (like they're any good), the Ravens just as much probably should've lost to the Browns (like THEY'RE ANY GOOD).
For the Bengals and Steelers fans out there with class, this one's for you, and here's to a great game today. Who-Dey! Thank God for Marvin. I'm out.
(Since Marvin became the coach of the Bengals, in this rivalry the road team is 7-1. If anything at all, this rivalry tends to send the home teams' fans home very pissed off.)
