People do things for different reasons, and it is impolite in many situations to refuse a gift. But often you do wonder if the person giving the gift or treat is doing it because he wants to "use you."
For example if you were a high flier, you tend to be treated good but that's usually only because people want to ask favors from you and create that obligation ... ... yet they could simply be nice and not think anything about it when doing something.

It's like a girl in a bar and a stranger comes out and buys her a drink. Should she accept it? Many girls later regret when the stranger becomes belligerent and behaviors in ways inappropriate.
Yet the person would try to put her on a false guilt trip by saying he owes her!

This scenario of people doing seemingly nice things applies to other situations as well - like when you are helped when you needed it and then all kinds of calls come with returning the favor but in a bigger way, not something you ever wanted!

I was in London this past July at London Heathrow Airport waiting for my flight to Kenya, and I'm a social girl so I decided to strike up a converstaion with a few Brits. (While waiting 8 hours for my flight.) And they thought I was from Austrailia, and when I said I'm not, I'm from New York. They were like "Really?" And I said yes. Why do you ask? And they simply said that my accent isso similar to the Austrailian accent. So is that what you British hear when we speak, or is it just some British folks. And Austrailians what do you think? Do we sound like you?

I am just about to move out of my parent's place for the first time in to my own flat, having got a job a few towns over from where they live.

Could anyone give me tips on moving out for the first time? I work for the local council so I know what to do in terms of bills. tax etc etc, but was just wondering if any of you have any helpful tips or adive on making things run smoothly.

I have been away from home for long periods whilst abroad and at Uni so himesickness isn't an issue.

My parents are obviously helping as much as they can but they're quite inform and I don't want to trouble them any more than I have to- so any pearls of wisdom you have about moving out/ settling in would be very much appreciated- what feelings did you experince when you first moved in to your own place?

Any UK- specific answers would be great but please feel free to answer otherwise!

Thanks!

I have only one, it seems that people find your secrets and use them against you. I don't tell anyone this except a few people, because I don't want them to think I sleep around a lot. I have herpes, actually it's a cold sore below my belt.

Reading through some of the questions on here I feel that I may be different to other people. I drive a large car which is VERY heavy on petrol, and happens to be a 4X4. I always leave TVs etc on stand by, that is if I ever bother to turn them off, all 4 of my computers are left on permanently, I fly several times a year, my central heating is always on high, all these things don't bother me, after all I can well afford them. Yet some people seem to think I should feel guilty about these points. I don't have any children (thank god) so why shouldn't I enjoy my life while I can, after all once your dead that's it. Perhaps some one could give me a good reason to feel guilty, because for the life of me I can't see any reason why I should.

At work, I am standing there talking to a lady who works with me and jsut walked into her office.
2 people at different times come up and start talking to her, regardless if I am there or not.
I think its kind of rude and just walk back to my desk, while they still talk. The lady I was talking to and I have not even finished our conversation.
Why do people do this and how can I handle this?
This happens a lot to me even outside of work.

I would like to have this answered by only those who feel both pornography and gore films as a problem. If you feel either are not, then there is no discussion. I already know where you stand. But if you do, which do you feel is more damaging? Why?

I was talking to a man from Jordan a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't believe how racist he was. He told me "I'm not racist, but these people are black". I couldn't believe it as I was lead to believe that The Qu'ran says there is no difference between us, in terms of the colour of our skin!
