One of my majors in college is Spanish, and I have a hard time understanding it when it is spoken. I do okay writing it, and a little better reading it, but when I hear it spoken (especially fast), all of the words seem to slur together. I have tried watching Spanish-language movies and listening to Spanish radio for practice, but it doesn't seem to help much. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any websites out there that could help me with this? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Those of you who were determined enough to teach yourselves a new language (without ever learning it from a teacher), please tell me your native language, the language(s) you learned and how long did it take you to achieve a good conversational level.

If you have any special tricks please do mention as well. Thanks!

People who can speak the most of the time are thinking on their native language, but the deaf-mute are communicating in diferent way, with singns, that's why I'm very curious to know when they are thinking about something,do they have some voice in their head,or they just have images without voice.

what was the earliest language? if the answer is just plain grunts and moans then what language in use today is the oldest?

also, how do people create new languages? if we all came from the same area(theoretically) then why is there a need for a different language to be created? were they created intentionally so that others wont understand or just happend naturally?
