In the west masculinity/ femininity are considered just social constructs with no biological basis. That is to say that anyone can be masculine or femininie just by doing certain things or not doing certain things. Masculinity/ femininity according to this point of view lie outside of us --- in the acts that we do.

The east considers masculinity/ femininity to be inherent/ biological. So, a masculine person will remain masculine and a feminine person will remain feminine, irrespective of the acts.

Which viewpoint do you think is true, and why?

Is it a matter of the attitude the person making an argument is taking (scolding / superior vs. helpful / friendly / enthusiastic)? Or is "elitist" more often used instead as a media-friendly slur that people use against others that they disagree with for reasons that they are unable to convey through research or logic? See if you can answer this without resorting to political labels at all.

My husband is freaked about me chatting with people, because it's easy to give away too much information, and there are people out there who can travel and come after you. I was just wondering how often this REALLY happens.

I have heard of primary schools that only speak in a language such as german, spanish, french...they are here in the US. Then you are supposed to send your kid there because at that age they are supposed to be able to learn other languages quicker. Well, what about english? The society here is english, so how do they get their book work in english? Even if you speak english, you still have a lot of bookwork to learn on it as a child. Not just your at home life with english, but you need to have classes on it. The reasoning is that they speak the other language at school and english at home. To me it makes no sense because there are proper english rules to learn. Regular people who did have english classes their whole lives still do not follow proper rules on english all of the time. So if the kids only learn the other language at school, then don't their skills in english suffer??

This is an article I found on MSN concerning whether or not to try saving very early preemie babies. I know what they are saying, that they don't want to put the child thru unnecessary suffering, but how can they know whether the doctors' efforts will bear fruition or not? They are not God. I believe every child deserves a chance, at least. To do less than that is passive neglect, in my opinion. To not try to save a child just b/c the child might have severe disabilities, and it affecting his or her "quality of life"...is absurd. We wouldn't be the ones living that child's life? How do we know?? Those are my thoughts; I'm interested to hear yours. Thx!
