On the news in Australia at the moment there are a lot of stories of companies saying they can't get local staff and need to import workers from China/India/etc.

I have the feeling that its not about not being able to find local workers but that the working conditions and wages are so poor that people would rather be getting welfare.

Can you think of any other reasons why this situation would happen in major cities as well as small towns?

We are playing this game on stocksquest.com and we start off with 100,000 dollars and I am wondering what company/ companies to invest in, the time span will be from now until December-ish. Should I go risky and day-trade or should I find a good steady company. Thanks for any assistance.

On 6/28/06, I bought Canon camera from Dell. I returned it a week later for another cam at Bestbuy. They took about a month, but claimed they Paypalled my account. Thing is, money is not in my Paypal, but Dell swears it is. Here I am 3 months later and having gone through 10 different Indian Dell reps and countless departments, still short $313.11. They see one thing and my Paypal balance says another. What should I do? I've already opened up a case w/ the BBB. Thanks in advance.

This stems from a question I read yesterday:

Why is canada the best country in the world to live in?

One answer: Canada is definitely not the best country. For instance, Canada doesn't care about freedom for the individual. They proved this when they made it almost impossible to own a firearm.

Have you ever seen the movie "Bowling for Columbine"?

the minimum wage was never meant to be a living wage.it is for unskilled people just entering the labor force.as one becomes more valuble to an employer or gains more skills his wage will go up either by the currrent employer or a new job.
it is basic economics that any cost in production of a sale or good is reflected by an increase in price of the good or service.
all this does is increase the amount of tax and does nothing else because that person is now paying more for what he buys to live.
and how is the increase determined.if $1.15 is good then why not $3 or $5?
in addition to just the wage the employer has to increase his contribution to soc. sec. and workmans comp. thereby increasing the price even more you pay.
is an increased probability of lay offs causing a greater strain of tax base.it goes on and on.

How much does the NHS spend on treating smoking related disease? - And how does this compare to the amount of tax revenue generated by the sale of cigarettes?

Could it be that the over a lifetime, a smoker pays for his treatment, given the amount of tax he pays each time he buys cigarettes?

how the American market does compared to other countries' markets?

Not the economy of how laborers are able to make a living, but the Power a country has from a market that gets "ahead" of other countries?

And a market, like a company business, can be RUNNING REALLY WELL but still be deep in debt at the same time?
