Dutch, Germans, Scandinavians, French, Austrians, English, etc?
If they "mix" are they still "pure"?
I have noticed that other races have homogeneous characteristics, but whites vary a great deal: some are blond, others are redhead, brunnetes; some have brown eyes, blue, green, gray; some have wavy, curly or straight hair.

If so, just wondering what effect if any this has on your life? career? family? Do you feel special or do you wish you were in the "ignorance is bliss" category?

According to the "Encarta World English Dictionary", a native is an aboriginal person or people, and a Native American is an aboriginal
person native to this continent, i.e. an Indian. So does that make me a Native Russian, though I'm first generation American? And by extrapolation does that make all white folk Native Europeans, and all black folk Native Africans? Or if evolution is correct, and we all originated in the "Fertile Crescent", does that make the entire population of the planet "Native Iraqis"?

I once had a heated discussion with an anthropology professor who became quite irate and defensive when I told her I believed humans have instincts. She vehemently denied it and told me that she is the professor and I am not (so she is educated as opposed to my ignorance). "Okay". I responded. "The alpha female has spoken". Needless to say, I did not sign up for her class. Who would like to comment ?

As an Ancient Near Eastern Art and Archaeology major, I feel that it is not our place as archaeologists to speak out on political issues (i.e. the war in Iraq) in relation to archaeological issues. Of course, for example, we can state whether or not certain military actions are negatively affecting archaeological sites. However, as archaeologists, I don't think that it is our place to publicly condemn or condone government actions. We can do so as private citizens, but not as archaeologists for it is not our area of expertise. What do you think? Do you think it is our responsibility as archaeologists to consider present-day social issues, as they may pertain to our studies?
