My birds get very jealous of eachother. They express it in a few different ways
1) Attempting to scare the other one away by bluffing.
2) Sneaking up on the other bird to pull a tail feather
3) Being sneaky and trying to edge up to the one being petted so that I'm petting both at the same time (this works until the first bird comes out of the pleasure zone enough to notice and nip).
4) Trying to rub up against my feet to try to get petted that way.
5) Screaming LOUD
6) Chewing something up which they know to stay away from
7) Using people words (which is GOOD and usually works). Usually it's just "hey Boo", "Pet Boo", or "Love Boo".

It depends on the animal. Dogs will express envy by looking at you and whining.

Maybe they try to get what the other animal has by fighting with it. Or get a similar thing and show off in front of it.

I think they just go after what they want and take it or lay down and become depressed.
