We hear different ways of speaking English every day..Yorkshire poeple speak differently from Hampshire people or Lancashire people. How does that happen. What are the actual social and physical mechanisms that define what an accent actually is and how does it start and then develop.

I am left with a lingering question after taking a black history college course that insisted (both text and professor) that the ancient Egyptians were black Africans. Many plausible reasons were given for this hypothesis. I asked the professor, however, why the Egyptians depicted themselves in art as having (among other non-African features) quite elongated ears, while black Africans by nature have very small, round ears that are close to the head. He admitted he did not have an answer for this. I'd appreciate others' thoughts on this. Thanks.

I`ve seen people on beaches and in the parks, etc. with those precious metal detectors and wondered if they were finding anything worth their while, so one day I asked one fella who was pretty busy at it, and he politely answered: "not yet." so I`m just curious to know if there`s anyone out there who has. and what?
