who does the Moon belong to? The United States? Wasn't it there first?

Unfortunately North America doesn’t belong to the Native Americans; it belongs to the United States and Canada. You own territory as long as you can prevent others from taking it from you. I don’t think the US has actually claimed the moon, but if they had, they would own it until somebody else wanted it. At which point the winner of the war would own the moon.

Perhaps this question can be best answered by examining Antartica. Although Antartica's exsistance was first theorized by the ancient Greeks and there are legeands of Polynesian sailors going south to a "great white land", it was not until the 1800's that the first documented sighting of maniland Antartica was made by Russian explorers. It is true that the norm during the age of discovery was for explorers to claim land for their home (or supporting) countries when they felt that they were the first to explore a bit of land. However, the Russians do not seem to have pursued this practice, in this instance, and Antartica was left left alone for most of the 1800's. Today, Antartica is essentially governed by the Unitied Nations. Several countries have made land claims in Antartica, but since the Antartic Treaty System was began in 1959 these claims have not been recognized and the contient has been protected ecologically with military operations there banned (except for research). Several governments do maintain research stations there and do exercise control over these areas, but they essentially do not own the land upon which they operate.
The moon is in a similar situation. The moon is governed by the Outer Space Treaty, signed by a number of nations including the U.S. and Russia, and is considered to be the same legally as international waters here on earth. Should the day come that humans begin to build bases on the moon, I would anticipate that this would be similar to the situation with Antartica. Bases would be owned by individual governments (or such), but the territory itself would not be owned by anyone. Administration and dispute resolution would probably fall to the UN.

North America doesn't belong to the Indians (we hate being called Native Americans) because we don't view land as possessable. If it isn't viewed as a possession it cannot belong to us. We lived with the earth and it was taken and possesed by the colonists. The Earth, the Moon, any planet, cannot belong to its inhabitant because it predates them by a massive amount. We are products of the Earth and we cannot therefore own it just as a man cannot own his mother.

in the starting up there have been no people in any of the Americas. Then people from Siberia stumbled on a land bridge, that's not there anymore, between the top of Russia and Alaska about 12,000 years in the past, and migrated down into North u . s . of america and then all the way down to South u . s . of america. there is a few data that some people also got here to South u . s . of america with the help of boats. notwithstanding the linguistic and genetic alerts are that the "interior reach" people got here from northwestern Asia.

Well the Amercian aborignes came here from other places as well. In some way the first ones in a place can claim it but only have it as long as they can hold on to it.

The UN or just space capable nations already created documents on who own the moon and such. No one does but I do believe that it has arrangement for areas to be availible to different nations.

North America doesn't BELONG to anyone. Parts of it belong to individuals because they paid for their property, but a continent cannot be owned. Earth cannot be owned. You can rule the people with an iron fist, you can blow up what you want, but you can't OWN something that can't be for sale.

But other than that...

Yeah, that I was here first stuff is darn stupid! Every country has conflicts. But, the earth doesn't belong to us. We belong to the earth. We need to learn to be a part of the earth rather than battling it and its people.

Why don't you do some research on first nation people and then answer. Instead of what you see on tv, and just going by 'what you think'. You might be interested in what you find out. And come on now..........the moon! Why do you feel the need to own everything. Sheesh! Mine! Mine! Mine!
