I asked the inventor of Ticks and he told me that they exist because he needed a complete set of blood sucking creatures. He made the mosquito, which is flying blood sucker, the parasites and leaches, which are water living blood suckers...so he wanted to complete the set with land blood suckers and that's where the ticks come in....no really.
