So let see first how old is homo sapiens, some say 150 000 some say 50 000 BC that homo sapiens have first walked on this earth, that is a short period, realy short , in the life of this planet and minuscule in the life of the universe.
Second, if evolutive proceses are continuing, what if in some 10 000 years we change in species that has some new traits that differenties them from us so that that you could call them a new species. Then over time with new traits beeing dominant homo sapiens disapear, and let's say this proces extends thru some period. yes we as a species could be short lived.
I can not see that without some major changes in our organisms that we could leave this Earth, and spred on other planets.
Will these changes be made by natural proceses or thru genetic engeneering is irelevant. But we could sprout in dozen new species.

It depends... We COULD manage through the present quagmire, but many long-standing trends and human attributes point ot a BIG FAT " YES" to your question: 1) Human Pride/Arrogance & the Other "Seven Deadlies:" try changing human's hearts & minds - "easier said..." 2) The human penchant for denial/ procrastination on issues that cry out for well-skilled remediations but instead are met with equally adept avoidance mechanisms, & 3)The human propensities for treating the truly complex problems with overly simplistic and too-often "oppositional" mindsets rather than cooperative, complementary, & reflexive mentalities, and conversely, the taking of what should be simply stated (and answered) - instead muddling the simple questions posed by others. That is why peace... such a simple notion, is so hard to achieve. God help us all.... Bless "our pointed little heads..." "And pray there's intelligent life out there in space, 'cause there's bugger all down here on Earth!"

Considering past global cataclysms and the age of the planet .....life has virtually been wiped out before and it will happen again. It is just a matter of when and how. It always comes back, perhaps in a different form or modified, but rekindles itself.

All forms of life either adapt to survive in their ever-changing environment or they die.

If human beings are able to change and adapt to their environment, they will survive.

If not, they will go the way of every other life form that has gone extinct.

It's their choice.

fact: 95% of all previous species have already extinguished, it's a continuos process and we are already fully capable of ending our specie with just hitting a couple buttoms.
