A young child has a great learning capacity. They learn through sight, touch, smell, hearing, and taste. We all learn through the same process. We go to school and we learn through books, films, other people we come in contact with. And we learn through lifes experiences. So the question really is: What do we do with all of our knowledge? Are we able to do anything with that knowledge? If so, what? Does it depend on the kind of knowledge we have as to what we do with it? This is something for everyone to think about. Tell me your thoughts and concerns or ideas. Waiting to hear from you.!!

I have to go past a persons desk at work each day who I once got on well with, but who now makes a point of ignoring me by not replying to my greeting ect. I feel as if the person is insulting me in front of other people. Should I say something, or pretend it isnt happening, or what? I am a quiet person and can attract this type of slight more than I would like, and have found in the past it can spread to others who have observed the first slight. How do others deal with this type of issue?

A woman professor of mine not too long ago asked the question..."would the world be a better place if 50% of the plumbers were woman?"...and the class went silent.

then she continued;
"what makes you think the world will be a better place when 50% of doctors, lawyers, or engineers are woman!!"

I would like your thoughts, please.

Please answer as I am really trying to help this guy. You know ppl think he is strange and eccentric---(well, he is) and also comes across very mean spirited to some BUT he does not behave that way towards me. He is very kind and caring. I feel certain that he does suffer from OCD personality disorder according to some of the info BUT, I don't know what the difference is and also, I really want to help him.

I've had to go to funeral recently and saw how hard it is for people to plan funerals for loved ones. I feel like i should plan mine ahead. I also learned that you just never know when you might go and realized it would be easier to just have some kind of preperation even if i am young. How would i go about it?? I dont want to write it out and give it some one and have them think im crazy or soemthing. Are there people who help w/ this type of thing??

32.9 million people are classified as living below the official poverty line ($18,104 for family of four) in 2001. [If you adjust the official poverty line to the inflation, the number of poor Americans would have been be closer to 50 million in 1999, when the official number was 35 million]

* The poorest 20% of U.S. households received less than 5% of all income in 2000.

* 16% of children under the age of 18 are living in poverty.

* In 2001, 26.4% of female-headed families were below the poverty threshold, and in such families the average income was about 60% less than the median income of all families.

* Almost 23% of the black population and 21.4% of people of Spanish-speaking descent have incomes below the official poverty line, compared with 9.9% of the white population.

* About 1.35 million children-nearly 2% of the nation's total-are homeless.

My manager who has never liked me and is just a very rude person, was chatting at lunch with another colleague and me and we both replied to the other girl's question together (OK maybe I was a bit after her but I just continued - I am older after all!), and she just fixed me with his long glare, at least 10 seconds.How would YOU react to this?

When I was about 8-10 yrs my younger brother and i were waiting for the youth club to open when a man asked me if I could help him carry a trunk upstairs. AT the time it never seemed odd to me that a grown man would try to enlist the help of an 8 year old girl, and I was a brownie at the time, so I was eager to help!! lol

Anyway, i began carrying the trunk upstairs and after each flight the man started to hug me. Then he told my brother to wait downstairs and at this point i began to feel very uncomfortable. Eventually I made some excuse about my dinner getting cold and I fled.

Everytime i think about that incident return to that time, i feel like a scared helpless 8 year old. I have a daughter now and fear for her safety. Notice that the man did not use anything obvious like sweets or toys to lure me, but prayed on my conscience and good nature.

Has everyone had close encounters with dodgy people in their childhood? I hope this question does not offend anyone.

His eight-stage theory is separated by age groups that change according to social standards of the time.

My question is, does his theory also depend on the culture it describes? I can relate to it only because I come from the United States but I wonder how it applies to other cultures so well. How much of it do you think is biologically determined and how much of it is socially influenced?

I know this question doesn't have an exact answer yet but I want to know some of your opinions.

We use a minimum of 4.7% of our brain,and yet,it is amazing what humans have created-and we are a whole different species only because of our mind. The boundaries of countries,the whole society skeleton is built out of ideas,coming from our minds. I want to see what you people think about it-where is the limit of the abilities of the human mind?

I am a Juvenile Probation Officer in a rural community with few resources. I've been reading up on animal assisted therapy programs, and want to implement one in my office. However, I can't find anything that is close to what I'm able to do to base it off of. Any ideas about coming up with a new program would be greatly appreciated. The only programs I know about involve detained youth, and the kids I work with are all in the community still. The goal is to keep them there and prevent them from requiring placement elsewhere. Any ideas will help a ton, thanks in advance! :)
