1.) Taking a year off. A lot can happen in a year. For instance, I had several close family members die. I ended a long term relationship. Got engaged with someone I met in college. Bought a new truck. Moved into my own house. It depends on what you think. Life can change so quickly. You should definately go to college right after high school to avoid putting it off for another year, 2 years, 3 years and so on.

2.) Go to a university. Good choice. To get a good job today, you more than likely have to have some college under your belt. Going right after high school has several advantages. Your mind is still fresh and ready to learn. You meet new people. You find what your interested in (and you may change your major 2 or 3 times.)

3.) Travel. I've always wanted to travel right after high school. However, keeping a job and saving my money seemed to be more important. Once you get a degree in college and start your career, you'll have plenty of vacation benefits to be able to go anywhere you want. Plus, when you retire, if you save money, you can travel as much as your heart desires.

After school you might want to take the summer off to get ready for school in the fall. I think that you should go to school, because there aren't a whole lot of jobs a new HS graduate can get that pays you well enough to take care of yourself. By delaying your education you are only making it that much more difficult to begin. You will also be behind your peers. I think that if you get it done now, there will be plenty of time for trips and travel after you graduate but also while you are in school. There are lots of breaks and trips that students go on for some of the classes, so why delay. You can still do all the things you want, while getting an education. Whereas if you wait you are that much further behind, if you don't have money you will see just how hard it is to survive, travel and have fun without it. You will become a more well rounded individual if you go to school. Your family will be proud of you because it shows maturity to work hard now so you will be able to relax a bit later. It really is not that fun being an adult, as you will soon see. There are bills, jobs, deadlines, etc., so don't rush into all that; put yourself in a position to get ahead. All the best.

Go to college/university. It will never be easier to do that then it is now, when you're used to the routine of studying. You can travel a bit during the summers and breaks if you want.

If you've got the money to travel or take an entire year off, you're way ahead of most of your peers. If you don't need it for school expenses, then invest it. When you graduate with a degree, you'll be far, far ahead of your peers. Graduating with no student loans is a huge advantage. At the university where I work, it's common for students to graduate with student loans amounting to a year's salary, or even two. That will take many, many years to pay off.

You have the opportunity to make your working life much less stressful by saving this money now. You should give this decision a lot of thought.

Do what is in your heart. If college is not what you want, then don't waste time and money. I do encourage you to at least go to a vocational school in order to gain some sort of certification/license so that you can become employable.

If you decide to not go to a college/university right now, my advice is to do so before you have children. Not that it can't be done (I did it with a full time job and two small children), but it's harder to study when you're exhausted after a full day working, and you have the children demanding all of your time. Then, you end up studying during the hours you should be resting (after you put the children to bed).

However, if you attend a college/university now, your study time is your study time with no extra demands/interruptions, and you'll also have the freedom for extracurricular activities, occasional parties, etc.

You are already in the educational groove after graduation. Take a trip during the summer before heading to the university. If you take off an entire year, it really might make it harder for you to get motivated to get that university degree. When I left home for the university, I was moving to another city, so that in itself was something of an adventure. Since graduation from the university, I've had opportunities to travel... and with some money in my pocket !

You're in the school groove, stay there. It's too easy to get caught up in the work world and get hooked on the money, which seems good, but in the long run doesn't rise as it would for a Uni grad.

Travel after college, or during the summer.

Some people think that once you're out of school you won't want to go back. That's not always the case! I am taking a break from school and it makes me WANT to go back!!

Make your own decision. There are pros and cons to each but it totally depends on what your needs are.

definately school is where you want to be next year, that is assuming you want to do higher education at all.

and you know how you can get your travel interest taken care of ? study abroad a semester, or a full year. junior year is best. i´m studying abraod in spain right now, and i´m right on track with all credits and looking a bright future education wise.

and as for taking a year off for doing what you want, summers are for that, summers in college are longer than high school you know . good luck
