One day while i was flipping channels, i came across
a program showing forest fires. Trees burning,
firefighters, entire mountain sides engulfed in flames ..etc
In the program, it showed how the wind can cause
fires to spread and with wind comes more oxygen.
Oxygen fuels the fire.

So i was thinking ...... wind is moving. Oxygen is
just a gas molecule in the wind. I remember seeing
helicopters dropping hundreds of gallons of water
on these flames to put out the fire. So why couldn't
we use SOUND?

Sound waves move thru the air like wind. Amplification
of certain notes might fracture the flame at the combustion
and cause the fire to cease.

Certain gases like oxygen might be affected by various
noises or pitches which could result in the destablization
of the fire at the sub-atomic level.

And if this noise or pitch can be discovered, maybe
fires can be put out with sound. Maybe homes or offices
can have smoke dectors that detect fire and aim a blast
of sound to put out this fire. Maybe fire extigushers can
be replaced with something like a flashlight that can send
out a beam of light with a burst of this sound.

A definate advantage would be the elimination of
the water damage created by sprinkler systems
and firefighter's waterhoses.

Just thinking.

But if someone does figure it out and makes
millions .........all i want is 10%! Send a check!

We have found that if you submerse an egg in vinegar, that the calcium will be "eaten" away, leaving a rubber like "egg" behind. The problem is (as a Mom), how do we make this an interesting science project? Would the hypothesis have to do with acidity?
Should they try other substances and if yes, what would be good ones for me to have on hand?

I don't want to sound like I am doing this for my twin 8 year olds, and I expect them to carry out all of the experiments and develope their own theories, but the school has indicated that they could receive some outside help. Where could my kids find the necessary information to do a good job?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Me and brother in law are building a shed. the center of the roof is 6ft from the edge. the hieght to the top is 42" maybe off by two inches, measured to inside the 2x4. Anyway anyone tell me how to obtain the angle of the roof with this info. We were aiming for around 30 degrees but while on the roof it seemed a heck of a lot steeper.

Given the rate at which they have been evolving, what will happen if they get to be smarter and self-conscious.

Would they become tyranical or would they (being smarter) teach us to coexist with them.

Would they devise a virtual world for us to live in?

What's the answer to this question?

A candle is 15cms long; it's shadow is 45cms longer. How many times is the shadow longer than the candle?

I know this is a question to find out if a person has 'brain lesion'. I wonder why the answer is not 3 times?

Thanks,

Sounds like a movie, "This Sick House". But so far after friends and family visited my house, they fell ill. One died already. The house is clean. There's no bad food. There's something in the house that's making people ill. I can't explain it.

'Scientist have calculated the year when the human race will cease to exist. It will be October 31, otherwise know as Halloween, but there is no need to worry yet as the year is 2,252,006. The date was announced by a team of European geologists after fossils from central Spain were analysed, they confirms supspicions that mammal species have an avereage lifespan of 2.5 million years and modern man has already been around for 250,00 years. ' - i read this from the bbc website, how do they know the write date, is it true?
