A manufacturer of corrugated metal roofing wants to produce panels that are 52 inches wide and 4 inches thick by processing flat sheets of metal into the shape shown above

The profile of the roofing takes the shape of a sine wave. If x = 0, y = 0 is the left endpoint of the profile shown above and x = 52, y = 0 is the right endpoint, what is the equation, y=f(x), of the profile?

That was part A and the answer was y=2*sin((2*Pi*x)/13)

Pat B asks : What is the width (in inches) of a flat metal sheet that is needed to make a 52 inch wide corrugated panel 4 inches thick?
You may approximate the answer within .01 inches.

Could someone please explain part B for me.
Thanks

a + b = t
(a + b)(a - b) = t(a - b)
a^2 - b^2 = ta - tb
a^2 - ta = b^2 - tb
a^2 - ta + (t^2)/4 = b^2 - tb + (t^2)/4
(a - t/2)^2 = (b - t/2)^2
a - t/2 = b - t/2
a = b

Therefore all numbers are equal.

Where did this equation go wrong?

I am doing homework and I can't figure these last three problems out:

4r^4w^2 + 9r^2w^6 -r^6w^2

(would that one be: 3r^6w^2 + 9rw^6)?

t^-5(t^2 - t^4 + 5t)

and, the worst one:

[x^(7y+1)]/ [ x^(7y-5)]

any help would be appreciated
