Let f(x)=12-x^2 for x is greater than or equal to 0 and f(x) is greater than or equal to 0.

a. The line tangent to the graph of f at the point (k, f(k) intercepts the x-axis at x=4. What is the value of k?

b. An isosceles triangle whose base is the interval from (0,0) to (c, 0) has its vertex on the graph f. For what value of c does the triangle have maximum area? Justify your answer...

simple explanations would be very very helpful! ;)

This is the kind of question my teacher is asking but I do not understand how to do it. I thought that maybe if I heard it phrased differently it might help. I'm looking for a solution to this system of equations.

Equation of the line:

(x-1)/3 = (y+3)/1 = (z)/2

Given point (2,3,1)

Find the equation of the plane that has this line and point.
____________________
OK so I got to this point:

In vector form, r(t) = (1,-3,0) + t(5,1,2)

Let t = 0 then (1,-3,0) is in the plane
Let t = 1 then (6,-2,2) is in the plane

So I now have 3 points on the plane. How do I use this to find the equation of the plane?

If I assign "P,Q,R" to these and use:

n = (q-p) x (r-p) = (x,y,z) etc.

Does it matter what point is assigned to P,Q or R? This is what I can't get my head around.

this is for my chemistry class. if u didnt get the question its, if you covered washington state in one mole of M&M's how many miles deep would it cover? i figured out that there is 22 M&M's per 25 mL or 22 M&M's per 25 cm^3. I dont know where to go from there and i need to show all my math steps. some helpful conversions he gave me were 1 mole = 6.022 x 10^23. 1 mL = 1 cm^3. and 1 mile = 1.6093 km. and washington state area = 68,182 miles^2 HELP!

At Tio Taco Town a taco contains 2 oz of ground beef and 1 oz of chopped tomatoes. A burrito contains 1 oz. of ground beef and 3 oz. of chopped tomatoes. Near closing time the cook discovers that they only have 22 oz. of ground beef and 36 oz. of chopped tomatoes left. The manager directs the cook to use the available resources to maximize their revenue for the remainder of the shift. If a taco sells for $1.20 and a burrito sells for $1.95, then how many of each should they make to maximize their revenue? (Let x identify the tacos and y the burritos.) Write the system of inequalities that describe this problem and graph the solution set. Show your work for maximizing the revenue

Max area of a quadrilateral with a certain perimeter isn't a square most of the time. Is max area of an ellipse with a certain circumference not usually a perfect circle? Is it possible to use a quadratic equation to solve the values of the extreme radii (what's the proper term?) in this case? What about a sphere? Doesn't a perfect sphere have optimal volume? Is area that much different than volume? Why? ¦D This is what my parents put up with!

An air rescue plane averages 300 miles per hour in still air. It carries enough fuel for 5 hours of flying time. If,upon take off,it encounters a wind of 30 miles per hour and the direction of the airplace is with the wind in one direction and against it in the other, how far can it fly and return safely? Assume that the wind remains constant.
300/(x-30) + 300/(x-30) = 5
[300(x-30)+300(x+30)] /(x-30)(x+30) =5
600x/x^2-900 =5 ?

I need to find the derivitive:

1. f(x) = (2x^2 + 5)^7
2. f(x) = 1 / 3 square root of 3 - x^3
3. y = x^3 square root of x + 1

this one need you need to find the tangent line equation
4. f(x) = square root of 2x + 1 (4,3)

this one you need to find the acceleration
5. f(x) = square root of x^3 + 1 with x = 2
