The Question: A rectangular pen is to be constructed from 1500 feet of fencing. One pair of opposite sides must be double thickness of fencing while the other pair of opposite sides must be triple thickness. Find the dimensions of the pen to maximize its area.

What I tried:

A = B*H
1500= 3B * 2H
H= (3B/2)-1500

A= 3B * 2(3B/2)-1500

I don't know what i did wrong, but once i enter it into the calculator to find the max (Note: im in precalc not calculus so we still use the calculator for this kind of problem) It doesn't give me a specific max which leads me to think that i did something wrong up above trying to find the function.

Can someone tell me what I did wrong?

If you have G = (V, T, S, P) where V= { a, b, A, B, S}, T = {a, b}

S is the start symbol, and P = {S --> ABa, A --> BB, B --> ab, AB -->, AB -->b}.

Can someone please explain how to get to the production portion of this problem as simply as possible. I just don't understand how to take information from one set and the other and make the sets to get to the production answer of this problem.

i first asked this question on http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjQxaxmnAQxwPQVIzFpolhnsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071023083937AAfnneT

altho i do get some of the work. I dont get all of it. For example, i dont get this part.then just concentrate on the numerator...

1 = [A(x-1)(x+1) + Bx(x+1) + Cx(x-1)]

substitute x = 0 , 1 & -1to get the values of A,B & C...

at x = 0
1 = -A

at x = 1
1 = 2B

at x = -1
1 = 2C

thus
1/(x^3 - x) = (-1)/x + (1/2)/(x-1) + (1/2)/(x+1)

so what is A,B, and C, then? do i solve further for it or something? I'm trying but I am just really bad at math.
:(
so please help. Thanks

its a story problem. I got the correct answer (at least I think it's the correct answer) but I didn't use an algebraic formula. Can you explain how to do the problem in algebraic terms. THANKS:

Geri had an average of 80% on four tests. What score must she get on the next test to raise her average to 83%.

I know the problems not too hard, but whenever I have to think of a way to write it algebraically it always seems to take forever. UGH! maybe I'm just not very good at these things.

How would you do it algebraically?

lim as x goes to infinity of the function

(ln((square root of x) +5)) / ln(x)

Note it is not the square root of the quantity (x+5); it is only the square root of x then the plus five is outside of the square root.

ok, so here is the Question im stuck on.... "the graph of the function f(x)= 2x^3 - 3x^2 +x +1 is translated to its image, g(x), by the vector [1, -1]. Write g(x) in the form g(x)= ax^3 + bx^2 + cx +d "

ok, so basically you need to translate f(x)= 2x^3 - 3x^2 +x +1 to the right one unit and down one unit.... i dont know how to do this for a polynomial of third degree... can anyone please show me how... thanx alot...
