I always see the words "majority" "large segment", "predominant", "sizeable" in many articles but not know how many the word "sizeable" is in concrete number. I think this is totally judged by feeling. According to my feeling, "majority" may be more than 80%. "predominant", I'm not sure. "large segment" I'm not sure but may be more than 70% according to my feeling. " sizeable" may be about 5-20% but of course not more than 20%. What's your opinion? Can u tell me what CONCRETE precentage of these words (MAJORITY, LARGE SEGMENT, PREDOMINENT, SIZEABLE) are in CONCRETE number according to your FEELING?

Find the approximate value of pi by circumscribing a regulare heagon (n=6) about a unite circle and then doubling the number of sides four times until you reach n=96.

note: for the regular hexagon, S(6)=(2sqrt(3))/3
note: this is based on the forumlas s(2n)=(sqrt(2-sqrt(4-(s(n))^2))) and s(2n)=(2sqrt(4+(s(n))^2)-4)/s(n) for the side of a regular 2n-gon inscribed in and circumscribed about a unit circle, respectively.

this was a hint given but i still don't know: find s(n) in each case, then multiply by n and divide by 2. Starting with n=12, the expressions will get increasingly messy, so it is enough to find the decimal value in each case.

PLEASE HELP ASAP..thank you so much

I once cashed a cheque at the bank. I had spent just one rupee from the amount before I realised the bank clerk had made a mistake. He had transposed the rupees with the paise. I now had exactly twice the value of the original cheque. What was the original cheques's value?
the answer is Rs.32.66
How did they come up with that, what's the trick in the problem and also what equations are to be used.
I Rs. = 100 paise.
thanks.

I'm a 3rd year mathematics uni student (albeit not a very good one or I wouldn't be asking)

My cousin just asked me a few question for her end of year exams and there was a few I haven't had any experience in for about 15 years and I've totally forgotten...

The question is

If y varies directly as the square of x, y=100 when x=5, find the value of y when x=3

:) I know it has something to do with the greek alpha symbol, well at least that's what I remember? Any help will be great!!
