e^x + e^-x = 10

I solved it graphically, but I have to know how to do it algebraically.

I have no idea how to attack this, I figured I'd take the natural log of all three to get an answer:

lne^x + lne^-x = 10
x - x = ln10
0 = ln10

That's obviously not right. How do I approach this? Thanks.

I am having a very difficult time in my Algebra class learning how to calculate slope. My teacher rushes through the lecture, and leaves over half of the class in a stuper. Could someone, ANYONE, make an attempt to help me figure these problems out? And do you have any tips/suggestions that may make learning how to calculate slope any easier?

THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to all who may answer and help me with this question!!!

Write an equation for each line passing through the given pair of points. Give the final answer in slope-intercept form.

1. (-1, -7) and (-8, -2)
2. (1/2, 3/2) and (-1/4, 5/4)

Write an equation of the line satisfying the given conditions. Give the final answer in slope-intercept form.

3. Parallel to 5x=2y+10; y intercept (0, 4)

Thanks again!!!
