2x^3 + 2x^2 - 4x - 4 = 0
2x^2(x +1) - 4(x+1) = 0
(2x^2 - 4)(x + 1) = 0

x = +/- sqrt(2) and -1

2x^3 + 2x^2 = 4x +4
=> x^3 + x^2 - 2x - 2 = 0
=> x^2(x + 1) - 2(x + 1) = 0
=> (x^2 - 2)(x + 1) = 0
=> (x + sqrt(2))(x - sqrt(2))(x + 1) = 0
Thus, x = sqrt(2), -sqrt(2), or -1
