x²+2ax=b
work:
(x+a)²-2a=b

This would make sense, we would have to complete the square by mutiplying "2" and then squaring it.
(x+a)²-4a²=b
(x+a)²=4a²+b
x+a=√4a²+b
x+a=2a√b
then..
x=a√b

How would it make sense skiping by mutiplying "2", and replacing it by ² to get -a² instead of just 4a²?
(x+a)²-a²=b

see?

In R^n (with respect to the Lebesgue measure) without using the Axiom of Choice? All the examples I've seen, like Vitali's set, are constructed resorting to the Axiom of Choice. If AC is mandatory, then does this mean non measurable sets have a, say, virtual but not actual existence?
Thank you.

Work.
3x²-5x-8=0
(x-5/6)²-25/36=8/3
(x-5/6)²=8/3+25/36
...................
96/36+25/36=121/36
right?
If it is possible for me...Then I would do it in a formula, but I have to do the other way cause of my teach.
...............
(x-5/6)²=121/36
x-5/6=+/- 11/6
x=-6/6,16/6
x=-1,6

Look here at work..shown
EXAMPLE A
x²+2/3x-3=0
(x+1/3)²-1/9=3
(x+1/3)²=28/9
x+1/3=2sqrt7/3
ect....

1) In this equation we don't times "2" in the denomenator of 1/3 in (x+1/3)² why???

EXAMPLE B
x²+1/4x-1/2=0
x²+1/4x=1/2
(x+1/8)²-1/64=1/2
ect...

2)In example B, we times "2" and squared it to get -1/64 why???

3)Why are example A and example B different, with *2 and squaring it and without it?

If we had.
3x²-5x+2=0
The rules says that if we do one thing to one side we must to the same thing to the other.
If we would get 3x² to just x², we would have to divide both sides by "3" "Once to one side than the other side" Like a regular equation.
ex.

3x²/3-5x=-2/3
would be.
x²-5x=-2/3
But to really solve it we must divide "5" by "3" too, it makes no sense.

How is that we must take -5 and divide it by 3???
Why isn't it playing by the rules?

ok, i know you're supposed to use the substitution rule again and i'm saying u=3x+1. and then plugging it in, changing the upper/lower bounds, but it's not working...again. help?
