It would be the sum of the surface areas of each of the faces. You should already know the area formula for the triangular faces and the rectangular ones.

For example, if the triangular face's edge lengths are 3 feet, 4 feet, and 5 feet, and the height of the prism is 6 feet, then:

There's one rectangular face 3*6 feet = 18 square feet.
There's one rectangular face 4*6 feet = 24 square feet.
There's one rectangular face 5*6 feet = 30 square feet.

There are two triangular faces whose area is 3*4/2 (a 3-4-5 triangle is a right triangle, so 3 is base and 4 is height), which is 6 square feet.

The total would be 18 + 24 + 30 + 6 + 6 = 84 square feet.

Find the lateral area first. Simply find the perimeter of the base and then multiply by the height of the prism. (If you were able to unfold the prism, this would be the rectangle where the perimeter of the base would be the length of the rectangle, and the height of the prism would be the width of the rectangle.) Then, find the area of the base; multiply it by 2 and add this to the lateral area you found first.

add up the areas of all the shapes that are there:
3 X rectangles
each rectangle area = length X height
2 x triangles
each triangle area = (0.5 x base length)x perpendicular height
any of the sides of the tiangle can be used as the base then the distance to the corner farthest from the base is the perpendicular height.
all these shapes when added give the surface area.

Find the area of each surface, and add them together.

To find the area of each triangle, use the formula height x base / 2. Do this for each triangle of the surface. Add them all up, and you have the total surface area.
