I need to find the integral of:
x / (x^4 + x^2 + 1) dx

I was thinking possibly partial fractions, but I'm not quite sure how to factor the denominator. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Imagine you are at a school that still has student lockers. There are 100 lockers, all shut and unlocked, and 100 students.

Here's the problem:

1. Suppose the first student goes along the row and opens every locker.

2. The second student then goes along and shuts every other locker beginning with number 2.

3. The third student changes the state of every third locker beginning with number 3. (If the locker is open the student shuts it, and if the locker is closed the student opens it.)

4. The fourth student changes the state of every fourth locker beginning with number 4.

Imagine that this continues until the hundred students have followed the pattern with the hundred lockers. At the end, which lockers will be open and which will be closed? Why?

1) Two pipes are connected to the same tank. When working together, they can fill the tank in 8 hrs. The larger pipe, working alone, can fill the tank in 12 hrs less time tha the smaller one. How long would the smaller one take, working alone, to fill the tank?

2)Solve for the indicated letter: R=xD^2+jDf for D
D=?

3)If an object is thrown downward with an initial velocity of Vo (the o is a zero), then the distance it travels is given by s=4.9t^2+Vot. An object is thrown downward from an airplane 300m from the ground, with an intial velovity of 5m/sec. How long does it take for the object to reach the ground? (simplify ur answer. Type an integer or a decimal. Round to the nearest tenth.)

4) A record for free-fall to the ground without a parachute is 175ft. How long did the fall take? Use the formila s=16t^2.

I'm supposed to explain how the trick works, but I don't even know how to figure out the missing digits. Can I get some help in figuring out the digits?

Select any three-digit number whose first and third digits are different. Reverse the digits and find the difference between the two numbers. By knowing only the hundreds digits in the difference, explain how it is possible to determine the other two digits. Explain how the trick works.

I know what the pattern is doing, but how do I articulate it in mathematical terms? Also, I don't understand part b. How can this pattern not work? Doesn't it just continue?

a.) What is the pattern?
b.) How many addends are there the first time the pattern no longer works?

1 + 11 =
1 + 11 + 111 =
1 + 11 + 111 + 1111 =

(The sums are 12, 123, and 1234 respectively, if that helps.)
