So everyone knows that the formula of the point-slope form is (Y-Y1)=m(X-X1) in which that (m) is your slope, and (x,y) is your point. What do you do when your slope is a fraction?

Here's an example...

(2,6), m -2/3

Can anyone help? I'm good at math, but terrible at fractions....

I have a 1-dimensional curve (e.g. Gaussian). What is a measure of its sharpness, i.e. whether the area under it is more concentrated around the center or more 'widespread'? I would like to have a universal measure which is independent of the exact shape.

So according to Bob Dorough and De La Soul, "3 is the magic number". However, from a mathamatical point of view, is there a more "magical" number than 3. I am looking mainly for a scientific answer, but humourous ones will also do.

I'm stuck on this question:

I need to convert this rectangular equation,
x² - y²= 1,
into a polar coordinate equation. I know that it can equal
r²cos²φ - r²sin² φ = 1,
which is also equal to
r² (cos²φ - sin²φ) = 1,
but I don't know what to do from here. Can you help me out?

(Zeno's Paradox) Achilles (A) and a tortoise (T) have a race. T gets a 1000 ft head start, but A runs at 10 ft/sec, whereas T only does .01 ft/sec. when A reaches T's starting pt, T has moved a short distance ahead, etc. Zeno claimed that A would never catch T. show that this is not so.

I was just bored, and I came up with these two ways to calculate pi.
There may be an error or two, I can't find my calculator to check it, if so, let me know and I will repost this with the correction.

lim(x->0) (180sin(x)) / (x(sin((180-x)/2)))

and

lim(x->inf) (x(sin(360-x))) / (2sin((x-180)/2))

(Ignore the spaces before & after the division signs, they are to make it so that Y!A doesn't condense the equations)

Using degrees here...

So ya, I guess I am asking if these two methods are correct, and if they may have any significance.
