An Iceboat sails across the surface of a frozen lake with constant acceleration produced by the wind. At a certain instant, the boat's velocity is V_1 = (6.30 m/s)i^ +(-8.42 m/s)j^. Three seconds later, because of a wind shift, the boat is instantaneously at rest. What is it's average acceleration for this 3 second interval? Explain.

i^ = i hat, j^ = j hat

Thanks for all your help on simultaneous equation's. Though I am still stuck on how do you know weather to add or subtract a simultaneous equation. Here is a couple of example's. 5x + 7y = 12 3x + 7y = 10 and 33x + 23y = 56 35x -23y =13. There is no need to solve these equation's if you could just give me a good explanation of how I would know weather to add or subtract them.

You are in a car for a ride, and take the following course:
50 km/h for 2.0 min, turn 90 degrees to the right, 20 km/h for 4.0 min, turn 90 degrees to the right, 20 km/h for 60 seconds (1.0 min), turn 90 degrees to the left, 50 km/h for 60 seconds (1.0 min), turn 90 degrees to the right, 20 km/h for 2.0 min, turn 90 degrees to the left, 50 km/h for 30 seconds (0.5 min).

At this point, how far are you from your starting point? Also, in what direction relative to your initial direction of travel are you?

Here's the problem, word for word:
Distilled white vinegar purchased in supermarkets generally has a 5% acidity level. Chef Judy marinates her veal in a special 8% vinegar that she creates herself. To create the 8% solution she mixes the 5% with a special 12% she purchases by mail. How many ounces of the 12% vinegar does she need to add to 40ounces of the 5% vinegar to get the 8% vinegar?

I saw on www.aquarelle.co.uk that for a bouquet having a diameter of 30 cms one needs 32 roses, for one of 25 cms: 27 roses and for one of 35 cms in diameter 37 roses.
How do I determine the diameter for a bouquet of 12 flowers? I used a proportion formula like this 25/27=x/12 and I get only aproximate values of 11.
