I know how to combine like terms--it's simple.

I also know that the answer to this riddle is "keyboard."

What I don't know is what it's asking to do.... like, once i combine the like terms for each problem then what? How are the answers from the first column suppose to match the answers to the second column???

And why do they have the problems separated in parenthesis?

If you can do problem A so I can compare mine just to see if I'm doing it right too, that would be great.

Thanks.

John travels 50 km/h, Mike travels 40 km/h. Travelling in a straight line, east to west, no stoplights and they leave at 10:00 a.m. and live 550 km apart.
1. How far from John's house do they meet?
2. What time do they meet?

I'm familiar with the usage of 'lemma' and 'corollary'; the first is a theorem used for the proof of a typically broader, more important result; the second is a consequence (usually immediate) of a previously proven result. These are both theorems, but it is more useful to call them by these terms.

However, I don't quite understand the special usage of 'proposition'. Why call something a proposition instead of a theorem?

In a certain region of the country it is known from past experience that the probability of selecting an adult over 40 years of age with cancer is 0.05. If the probability of a doctor correctly diagnosing a person with cancer as having the disease is 0.78 and the probability of incorretly diagnosing a person without cancer as having the disease if 0.06. what is the probability that a person is diagnosed as having cancer?
