poor you!

well often what happens is that you can fall behind on some of the initial stuff. Which makes later stuff, building on that initial stuff, nearly impossible to understand. And so on.

the only way you can break the vicious circle is by seeking help. The best way would be to go see the teacher (rather than the counseler) and aks him/her either for their own time to help you find out which areas are your biggest missing foundations, or for someone else's time (they may have a private teacher to recommend, say a student in college).

It can be math, it can be music, it can be many things - if you don't have the proper basis, you'll suffer without end!

as for loving it, well... What would be nice is if you could come up with topics that interest you, and where math would be involved. Of course it could be that the math is too complex, but hopefully that would not be the case, and then maybe you'd hate math less (and again, the teacher may be able to help here).

good luck

I happen to love math; I just do. But I don't think that everybody is necessarily capable of loving math, nor does everybody have to. I love math for a number of reasons: I'm very good at it, it's logical and concrete as are my own thought processes, and I use it constantly in my line of work (engineering). You probably hate it for any combination of the following reasons: you're not good at it, it isn't relevant in your areas of interest, you are right brained and are better at artistic expression than logic and computation. And that's okay! I don't think you should have to love math.

However, you would probably like to be good at math, so you can do well in school. I'd suggest trying to get extra help from your teacher after school. If your teacher can't help (If your teacher is bad, that could be the whole problem to begin with!), I'd suggest getting your parents to hire a private tutor to work with you in math. If your family can't afford that, just see if you can have a friend who is better at math help you with your homework and studying. You don't have to force yourself to feel like you love math if you're not meant to; just try to get good enough so you won't hate is as much anymore. Good luck!

Try reading a book on mathematicians and their lives and contributions. Try to feel the kind of curiosity and excitement they might have felt. Read with an open mind - you can really get inspired.
