We used to have a wonderful duodecimal system.

We used to have :-

Half crowns (8 in the pound)
Florins (10 in the pound)
Shillings (20 in the pound)
Pence (240 in the pound and hence 12 in a shilling)
Half-pennies (480 in the pound)
Farthings (960 in the pound)

Just look at these numbers . They are all divisable by 2 or 4 or 8 and 10 except for the half crown. This made dealing with fractions of a pound very easy.

However, we used to have to learn funnies like 6/8 was a third of a pound and 13/4 was two thirds.

6/8 means 6 shillings & 8 pence

2.While traveling from one station to the next, after 1 hour a piston burst. As a result the party could only proceed at 3/5 their original speed and arrived 1 hour late. If however the accident had
happened 50 minutes later, they would have arrived 40 minutes earlier than the time they did arrive
at. What is the distance between the stations?

I'm just a middle school student who needs your help.

If it is impossible to reach infinity and -infinity from zero, then it is also impossible to "get back" to zero from infinity and -infinity, assuming there are something located at both "points of infinity".

What I'm trying to say here is that if someone wants to travel from one point to another on a real number line, then both points must be rational and "reachable", so that he/she is able to stand on that point. Thus, the "points of inifinity" do not exist.

Am I right? Am I making sense?

I am working on a project in which I need to show progress towards completion. The project is broken in to five (5) milestones. Each milestone may have anywhere from two (2) to seven (7) sub-projects. Each sub-project may have anywhere from two (2) to ten (10) tasks. We have determined that each milestone, sub-project, and task is evenly weighted; that is the number of events for each specific task, sub-project, or milestone should not be a factor when progress is reported.

I am concerned that I present progress that reflects the actual status of my project. For example, I have three events. The MEAN is 58%, whereas the MEDIAN is 50%. Which is the right number to provide as my status?

I am almost out of characters, so I will present the problem I am working on in a seperate question.

Thank you to all the math wizzes out there for helping. I am envious of your aptitude for math!
